Our friends Boyd Cycling have recently announced the new Bracken wheelset that has been developed to address more “questionable trail behavior,” pairing gravity hubs with a trail attitude. Bracken Trail is built on the extra stout, near instant engagement Sixtus hub, and carries an all new, heat treated 6061 extrusion featuring a reverse hook at the leading edge to deliver higher impact resistance for those less-than-elegant landings. The low drag Sixtus hub, with just zero-point-five degrees of engagement, marries to the new rim extrusion with a new spoke set. The new spokes feature a reinforced elbow, delivering a 30% gain in tensile strength, enabling further questionable trail behavior.
“Let’s be honest, everyone has a different definition of ‘trail’ riding. The Bracken Trail was created for our friends who are on the more playful side of Trail. These wheels remain very flick-able, but can take the beating of rowdier riders,” said Boyd Johnson, Chief Innovation Officer and Founder at Boyd Cycling.
The Bracken Trail weighs in at 2060g per pair, with that little extra heft coming from the inclusion of BOYD’s fast rolling Sixtus gravity hubs. The hubs feature a 6 bolt rotor interface and, with BOYD’s interchangeable end caps, allow for 15 or 20mm front thru axles, bringing maximum bike choice versatility.
