🎡 ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW WEATHER OUTLOOK 🌦️
Powered by Everett King Bristol & Exeter
Good evening everyone,
It's time for the very first KWT Royal Cornwall Show Weather Outlook of the year!
With only a few days to go before one of Cornwall's biggest and most loved events returns to Wadebridge, many of you have been asking the same question:
"Dave, what's the weather doing for the Show?"
The honest answer right now is that it's looking like a very typical Royal Cornwall Show forecast... a bit of everything!
First things first, this is only the initial outlook. From Wednesday onwards we'll be issuing daily Royal Cornwall Show weather updates at around 5pm as confidence increases and the finer details become clearer.
And yes, there's a good chance you'll spot some of the KWT team wandering around the Showground on Saturday. I'll try to remember to wear my KWT hoodie so you can find me, and if we're lucky, we may even have a few freebies with us too. So please do come over and say hello if you see us.
Now onto the weather.
The good news is that current forecasts are not showing a complete washout. Before social media starts predicting biblical floods and Noah begins building an ark in Bodmin, there is plenty to be positive about.
However, after the recent heatwave and record-breaking temperatures, the atmosphere appears determined to remind us that this is still Cornwall and not the Costa del Sol.
In the days leading up to the Show, there will be spells of rain moving through the county, helping to freshen things up after what has been an exceptionally warm and dry spell.
For Thursday, visitors can expect a real Cornish weather sampler platter. There will be showers passing through at times, some potentially heavy, but there will also be plenty of bright and sunny spells in between. One moment you'll be reaching for your waterproof, the next you'll be looking for your sunglasses. Temperatures should reach around 12°C to 15°C with a breezy southwesterly wind of 10-30 mph making it feel a little fresher than recent days.
Friday currently looks slightly more settled. There may still be a few showers around during the morning, but these should gradually become less frequent as the afternoon progresses. In between, there should be some lovely bright and sunny spells developing, making for a pleasant afternoon around the Showground. Temperatures are expected to reach around 14°C to 16°C with a westerly breeze.
Now let's talk about Saturday.
At the moment, the weather models appear to be having a family argument.
Some forecasting models are suggesting occasional outbreaks of rain, others favour a mixture of sunshine and showers, while a few are trying to build slightly drier conditions into the region.
The one thing they all seem to agree on is that it will be quite breezy.
As always with Cornwall weather, particularly several days ahead, small changes in the position of weather fronts can make a huge difference to what happens on the ground. That's why we'll be refining the forecast every evening from Wednesday through to Friday to give you the most accurate picture possible.
For now, my advice is simple:
Bring the sunglasses.
Bring waterproof.
Bring the wellies.
Bring the suncream.
Bring the spare jumper.
And possibly bring another bag to carry all the weather-related items you've packed "just in case."
If you've attended the Royal Cornwall Show before, you'll know this is practically part of the tradition anyway.
A quick weather fact for those interested: June is actually one of Cornwall's drier months on average, but the position of the jet stream this week is allowing Atlantic weather systems to push back into the UK. Think of the jet stream as a giant river of fast-moving air high above us that helps steer weather systems. At the moment it's flowing directly across the Atlantic towards us, which is why conditions are looking more changeable than they did during last week's heatwave.
So while we're unlikely to see the 30°C temperatures we've recently experienced, we're also not expecting endless rain. The most likely outcome at present is a mixed and fairly typical early summer pattern, with showers, sunshine, cloud and breezy conditions all taking turns on centre stage.
We'll continue monitoring the latest forecast data and will issue the next Royal Cornwall Show update tomorrow evening.
Kind regards,
KWT Dave.
