1. Fabrication & Preparation
Precision-formed mild steel creates the clean, consistent profile. Every surface is prepared to ensure coating integrity from the outset.

2. Hot-Dip Galvanising
The frame is fully immersed in molten zinc, forming a metallurgically bonded coating that protects the steel inside and out — critical for exposed urban settings.

3. Inspection & Finishing Prep
Post-galvanising, each piece is checked and refined to ensure a consistent substrate for finishing.

4. Powder Coating
A polyester powder coat can be applied in any RAL colour, delivering a durable, uniform architectural finish.

5. Duplex Protection
Galvanising + powder coating work together as a duplex system — extending lifespan while maintaining a high-quality aesthetic.

Our process hasn’t changed in 35 years. From timber sorting to band sawing and spindle moulding and every careful step in between, we craft the Serpentine Seat just as we did for the original prototype — precision, care, and attention to detail in every piece.

Recent site visit whilst we were in the area was the installation at Nine Elms Riverside Gardens — an exceptional collaboration brought to life by Studio Tord Boontje and Factory Furniture.
The rotating seats and chairs artfully combine corten steel and FSC® Cumaru wood, offering flexible orientation for individuals or groups and enhancing how people experience the Thames‑side views.
