The King’s Cupboard Rutland Fabulous fabrics, preloved curtains, roll ends, upholstery, curtains, roman blinds, cushions, shades

When picking neutral fabrics for your projects think texture and detail. I’ve just completed these two Roman blinds ready for fitting tomorrow and love the combination of this textured fabric with fan edge trim. The chair, for another customer, required an update and we have chosen this chunkier linen with a double piped trim for some extra detail.

Colourful piped box cushions delivered to their homes this week. Expertly made by our team member who has recently relocated but is still creating beautiful work for The King’s Cupboard. Off to London now to measure a home needing curtains and blinds. Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello! Three fittings completed today. The screwdriver came out when I needed to move the tracks to fit the curtains neatly behind the pelmets which was a bit more of a sweaty marathon than a sprint fit. Then on to a kitchen with a colourful single curtain, blind and matching seat cushions to brighten up the room. I finished the tops of the pleats on the last pair of curtains at the studio and fitted them on my way home. The customer used to make curtains herself and the first thing she said when we were chatting about the fittings I’d completed that day was “your shoulders must be aching”. And, ouch, she was so right. Neck and shoulder strain is definitely part of the job. It was lovely to have her understand. By the time I left her home it was gone 3pm and I hadn’t stopped for lunch. I went to my bag to grab my keys and what did I find? She had hidden a creme egg in my bag! Three very happy customers and a chocolate hit. I’ll take the aches and pains when that’s the reward. The creme egg was gratefully devoured before I left the drive. Happy Easter everyone 🐣😘

A couple of bedside lights made for my customer… photographed in situ by my customer (yes, you guessed it, I didn’t take any photos before they left the studio!!!). These 30cm empire shades were a delight to make. Drums, ovals, empire shapes, gold or a contrast fabric lining also an option. Fabric by

Again I am being utterly terrible at taking photos but remembered to quickly snap this chair that has had a delicious makeover just as it was leaving the studio yesterday. Customer is thrilled with the transformation. It looks lovely in this Westray with trim by

The King’s Cupboard has been residing at The King Centre for EIGHT years today! Eight years of scheming and dreaming. Eight years of gently nudging customers out of their comfort zone. Eight years of collaborations, logistics and working alongside very talented makers and creators. Eight years of wearing every hat and trying out new ones. Running a business is hard - there’s a lot of balls in the air all of the time and I didn’t sign up to join the circus! Always a solution to find, a deadline to meet, a number of stars to align. There’s the dog to walk, dinner to make, emails to respond to. It can sometimes be very overwhelming - which is probably why I have a current fascination with rowing the Atlantic. But let’s park that thought for another day! Today I am looking back with pride that every year has been better than the last. More work produced, more happy customers year on year. I can’t do any of this without a great team. It’s a milestone year for me too and I will be taking a few days to celebrate next week. Lots to reflect on and I feel 2026 may be the year for a few tweaks and changes. Thank you for being here!

Had lots of fun this week with Tam, who organises the website, taking photos and writing content for our latest arrival of preloved curtains - now all online. This is me fashioning a very long goblet headed pelmet into a mini skirt. It’s definitely my colour!!! I think we could make at least half a dozen skirts from this pelmet - anyone got a number for the Von Trapps?

Just a snapshot of some of the items delivered this week. We’ve been working hard to deliver to deadlines and the items you see here have been created or handled by seven people - all with their own role and skillset - making, measuring, fitting… so that we can deliver something bespoke to your home. This week we’ve installed 7 pairs of curtains, 9 Roman blinds, 3 lampshades, 2 ottomans, 9 cushions, 3 headboards, one valance… and no two weeks are the same. These photos are quick snapshots I remembered to take whilst leaving the rooms! It’s not the whole picture, but you get the idea! In my customer’s home I concentrate on dressing the pleats in the curtains (it’s quite meditative!) that I often forget to snap away for your viewing pleasure. The studio is looking a lot less chaotic since the Christmas rush, but I’m not always there so do call ahead or email to make an appointment to discuss your project. Lots of exciting projects already booked in for 2026, plus a BIG birthday to navigate next month. 🎉
