Cotton & Wool
To help guarantee the quality of the materials used in a Minster Bed, wool from sheep on the family farm is used within the mattress or bed base. This way we can guarantee the quality of the fillings and insulators used in our beds. At Minster Beds it is our aim to be as sensitive as possible to the environment by using locally sourced materials and suppliers which lowers our carbon footprint.
‘Natural Materials Are The Best’ research has shown that we sleep better on animal fibres such as wool and horse hair as they are much better at maintaining the right body temperature than any man made fillings. Natural materials such as horsetail, wool and cotton breathe well and make excellent mattress fillings as they suck moisture away from the body giving you a comfortable night’s sleep. In a Minster Bed we typically use wool due to the positive effects it has on sleep and the fact that this is sourced locally. The choice of wool all depends on the feel you want. Lamb’s wool is an excellent mattress filling but for the most sumptuous sleeping surface Cashmere or our signature blend of silky smooth Blue Faced Leicester wool creates an outstanding mattress filling and sleeping surface. Blue Faced Leicester wool is fine and dense with a good lustre, it is noted for its likeness to mohair and good resilience. Wood
Wood plays an important role in the construction of the bases and headboards. All the wood we use is FSC certified. Our Bed bases consist of the highest standard of craftsmanship. Our quality constructed timber jointing methods are used on all our bed bases giving you many years of perfect support and comfort. At minster beds we only use pocket spring units in our mattresses as these give your body the very best overall support. Each individual pocket spring is incased in a calico lining and reacts separately to the contours of your body. Hour Glass Cone springs are used in our bases and are traditionally lashed together with twine 8 ways. This method allows each spring to move separately any way from a diagonal force.
