I’m Steve, the owner of Smoke and Sawdust. I am a graduate Engineer with a background in factory automation and robotics. In 2017 I decided that my career wasn’t making me completely happy and that I wanted a change of direction. I had been making furniture for myself and friends for some time, and not really thinking too much about it, decided to list a few of these items online.
I was blown away by the response and knew immediately that this is what I wanted to do. I set about building a coherent range of furniture aiming to make each piece simple, functional and refined. I love the strength and versatility of mild steel and the warmth and patina of chunky reclaimed timber. This combination of materials is fundamental to my designs, and the by-products of the two inspired the name ‘Smoke and Sawdust’.
