Heirloom Furniture is owned and run by Sandy Burns, a highly skilled fine furniture maker who, prior to setting up his own business, worked for 12 years as a full-time tutor at the world-renowned Chippendale International School of Furniture. Sandy undertakes all kinds of bespoke wood working, but his passion lies in crafting a small range of bespoke pieces including unique 'treasure' boxes, rock

ing horses and chairs for children. Sandy loves to create items that will become family heirlooms and his fine carving skills mean that any of his pieces can be inscribed with personal details such as names, dates of birth, anniversaries, etc. Anyone wishing to commission a special item - from birth or Christening gifts right through to wedding and anniversary presents - will be delighted with Sandy's ability to accommodate special requests and with his skills in producing items of the very highest quality.

If you are looking for a for a or simply appreciate the beauty of wood and fine crafting skills, this post features another of Sandy Burn's beautiful . This one is made of ( ), sourced from the eastern side of the United States and renowned not only for its unusual colour, lustre and grain patterns but also for its strength.
The box features a clean, striped design, with angular feet to match this crisp style. To contrast with the black wood, Sandy has used for the banding, the handle and the feet. The hinges are also made of sycamore, secured with .
The tray inside, again in sycamore, is lined with , giving this box a very classy finish and making it an exceptionally stunning piece.
Sandy can make boxes to commission for use as a , , - or whatever you choose - and as gifts for any occasion from weddings and christenings, to special birthdays and anniversaries. Sandy Burns is a working at Fenton Barns in East Lothian, Scotland - and one of the items he most enjoys making is or . Sandy carefully sources pieces of wood of great beauty and interest for each of his boxes, which are then personalised with carvings and engravings, resulting in beautifully crafted or that will give pleasure for a lifetime and which make ideal birthday, wedding or anniversary gifts for family and loved ones.
Sandy started making boxes several years ago, and here you can see one of his first, made in Burr Elm and Yew for a gentleman who had served in the Royal Navy for more than 45 years. The box has little bun feet, the lid is decorated with beautifully carved maritime knotwork with anchor-shaped hinges joining the lid to the box. Inside the box there is a felt-lined, lift-out tray, with compartments to provide ideal storage space for business cards, cufflinks, watches, etc.
