A particularly nice Staddle stone we recently acquired and that’s on its way to the yard. These were once a common sight holding up grain stores from the moisture of the ground and creating an impassable mushroom shaped overhang to keep the mice and rats out! We rarely see really good examples of these in the yard but currently have a number on the way, including a very nice pair with round column bases.

An ancient trough?… dated 1569! Actually it’s one we made from scratch and aged to have a sort of worn bashed about antique look with the wear and tear you’d expect and want! What do you think? We could make more/similar to order, or square pairs for either side of a doorway for example.

These are antique, look brilliant and give instant character to any area, and are always a good investment and hold their value as they become harder to find! Another long standing favourite here at Ballyalton is the antique iron gate, whether it’s a farm or field entrance with a old rusty blacksmith made gate, with unique signature features of the particular maker or estate, or a pedestrian garden gate, it instantly creates an atmosphere of history and can be a great focal point. An antique stone trough is a brilliant addition to any yard or garden, they look amazing against any backdrop and instantly bring old world character, either as a stand alone focal point or placed to blend in. Antique troughs have been a long term favourite here at Ballyalton over the years and have the additional attraction of going up in value as they are being gathered up by long term owners all the time and are getting harder to find, so you could say they are an investment!
