Late 19th century elm vernacular armchair with a finely woven string seat. Subtle irregularities, slender shaping and honest construction place it on the cusp of the Arts and Crafts movement, while retaining a distinctly rural character. Structurally sound with age-true repairs. Quiet, tactile, and increasingly scarce in this form.

A proper statement piece this week.
Late 19th century Dutch Neo-Renaissance carved oak library cabinet, packed with deep relief carving, lion mask mounts and wonderfully expressive putti heads. The upper section retains beautifully wavy period glass, while the lower doors feature bold geometric panels and sunburst motifs.
Furniture like this was made to impress — architectural in scale and rich in detail, reflecting the revival of Renaissance design that swept through European interiors in the late 1800s.
One of those pieces that stops you in your tracks.

Pair of late 19th century Japanese carved bamboo brush/umbrella/stick stands, Meiji period. Deep relief carving with scholar figures beneath flowering branches, applied mother-of-pearl blossom heads individually pinned with bronze nails, and inset carved bone masks. Original hardwood root-form bases. Made during the Meiji export era for Western interiors, these are substantial, sculptural pieces with genuine age and patina. Surviving as a true pair.
