A totally unique and one off piece made from an antique military or travel chest. It was found in an old bus depot covered in thick black paint. I sanded it back and treated the wood with Bisson Black Wax and treated the metal with marine owatrol metal protector. I have not sanded it to hard to leave the original marks and patina to show it's age. Metal hairpin legs were then added.
There is a metal band running around the top of the chest and the inside of the lid is lined with metal. All the metal handles tuck inside the chest to leave a flat surface and there are brass clips on the side to fasten the top shut. There is a lock but unfortunately I don't have the key.
My research suggests it is most likely a military chest, most likely German in origin and from around the earlier part of the 20th century.
