Today I delivered the 2nd larger sofa back to my client after a revamp and update with new seat cushions and new velvet cover.

The sofa has had new fibre wrapped foam seat cushions and is now covered in the beautiful Omega Prints Loseley velvet in Lagoon from Linwood Fabrics

And best of all, I have one very happy client, who has her 2 sofas back covered in a lovely fabric.

Last week I finished the upholstery for this lovely France and Son armchair and sofa, both designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard-Nielsen. This chair and sofa both had the original sprung seat and back cushions, but were in need of restoration. They all had new hessian, fibre and felt and once restored are as good as new. The new covers are made from Abraham Moons Melton Wool in Lemon. Thanks to Arc Furniture for giving me the opportunity to restore the upholstery on these beautiful mid century pieces.

Today I delivered the first of 2 sofas back to my client after a revamp and modification to the original frame.

This smaller sofa sits in my clients living room, but it also sits across then entrance to the conservatory in this lovely New Forest cottage.

When I visited this client to look at the sofas to discuss what they wanted done with them, my client asked for a very unusual modification. The gap past the sofa into the conservatory was originally very narrow, and so my client asked me if I was able to cut some of the scroll arm away to give slightly more room into the conservatory.

So after stripping off the fabric from the whole sofa, and the stuffing from the arms, I was able to cut 5cm off the scrolls on each arm, and with the help of Ana from The Goodlife Centre who kindly cut the piece of wood at the top of the arm, I was able to give my clients an additional 4” of room to get past their sofa.

The sofa has had new fibre wrapped foam seat cushions and is now covered in the beautiful Omega Prints Loseley velvet in Lagoon from Linwood Fabrics

And best of all, I have one very happy client. Now onto the second, larger sofa for the same client.

These chairs came into my workshop after the wood had been restored beautifully by Deborah Hurst Restoration.

These Cintique chairs used to belong to my clients father, and are of great sentimental value to my client.

She asked that we could ensure the chairs were restored and reupholstered so she could have them back before a family gathering at Christmas, and they are ready to head back to her now.

They have been covered in a lovely wool fabric from Tori Murphy called Pippy Scallop Stripe in black. This versatile fabric is fully reversible and my client chose the white stripe with the black dots.

So after a quick trip up to London today to deliver cushions for 2 sofas, they are in place in their respective frames.

These 2 mid century sofas were made by my clients father, and they had last been covered in a red chenille fabric and some William Morris fabric more than 50 years ago.

My client chose the chunky Cornwall fabric from Fibre Naturelle in 2 shades - Peacock and Spruce.

The fabrics reflect the colours of the many watercolours painted by my clients’ father, that line the wall in the room where these sofas sit.

The wood has been beautifully restored by Deborah Hurst Restoration and with new 5” foam for the seats and new wedge shaped foam for the backs, they’re good for another 50 years.

A year ago I was contacted by a client about reupholstering a chair with sentimental value. After doing the work on this chair my client has been on the lookout for another tub chair to go with it, and this week I finished his second tub chair in the same fabric. The fabric is from the Fibre Naturelle Gatsby range in Plaza. The last 2 photos show the before and after of the original chair.

In my workshop today are these 5 handsome dining chairs.

These chairs are a real family heirloom, they have been passed down from my clients’ great grandfather, to his grandfather, to his father, and now my client has inherited them.

He has had them a few years in this state whilst trying to decide what to do with them.

When I went to visit him to discuss the restoration of these chairs there was talk of making them look more contemporary by upholstering them with foam, using a bright fabric and doing away the the decorative nails, but I’m pleased to say he has decided to replace everything like for like.

So it’s new traditional upholstery, new leather from Wildman & Bugby and new decorative nails.

I’m looking forward to making them look fabulous again.

It been very cramped in my little workshop for the past couple of weeks! I’ve had 2 Natuzzi sofas in my workshop - a 3 seater and a 2 seater, both being reupholstered. My client had some work done on his house and the builder left his Natuzzi sofas outside in the rain, so the leather was badly stained and damaged, see the last photo.

He asked me to reupholster both of the sofas, but he wanted them done in a good quality faux leather. So after many samples were sent to him, he chose the Camira Fabrics Vita Faux Leather in Swan. The sofas are ready to be collected and sent back home - unfortunately another rainy day so they’ll be wrapped before they get picked up to avoid further rain damage!

The photos are not very good unfortunately, it’s very difficult to take a good picture in such a small space!

About a month ago I finished a giant curved, deep buttoned sofa in the striking House of Hackney Hollyhocks velvet. The intention was that the legs would be covered in a bullion fringe, but the fringe supplier couldn’t get it to me by the time I had finished the upholstery. My client asked me to make a temporary skirt for the sofa, which I attached with Velcro so that it could be easily removed once the bullion fringe was available. So today I travelled to my clients’ house, removed the skirt and attached the bullion fringe - what a difference it has made. Swipe through the photos to see how the sofa came to me, how it looked with the temporary skirt, and how much better it looks with the bullion fringe, in situ in my clients house.

I had a brilliant weekend teaching How to Make a French Mattress Cushion at The Goodlife Centre in Borough SE1. This is a new course and you learn all the techniques to enable you to make a French Mattress Cushion. The course is designed to use all sustainable materials, including the new Springbond Ultraflex sustainable foam replacement, rubberised coconut fibre and sustainable wadding. The students loved the course and were all really happy with their finished cushions. There’s another course running in October.
