My new little venture after being made redundant from an amazing company who taught me real work life balance and that ‘corporate’ certainly does not make the whole world go round. One day after 8 hours job hunting I looked around the house to do something productive to fill all this new (hopefully temporary) time on my hands. My eyes fell on an upholstery book I had bought easily ten years ago, t

hen on the sweet little although slightly tired velvet nursing chair I had in my bedroom. I asked my Mother if she knew who’d upholstered it and her reply became the motivation I needed to suddenly be unafraid of a complete career change at the age of 35. She replied “your Father”, we lost him when I was a little girl and although I knew he was creative I had no idea he had dabbled in anything like this. This small distraction now felt exciting, bigger than a one-off project, maybe this was a sign? Could I follow in his footsteps and make him proud? I was, and still am excited for my new journey. My path has revealed itself, it feels right and I need to pay attention to those feelings and follow where they lead me. Instead of choosing fabric from a roll, we printed our own using a client’s favourite childhood book, the heirloom is now a revived and much-loved piece that will be nursed on, read on, and continue to pass down through the generations.

Because the best nurseries are made from memories, not trends 💙
