Don't let Winter put you off riding your bike. Just take a few steps to make it a bit more comfortable.

1. Buy some decent wet weather gear. Gore make some good waterproofs as well as Altura and Endura. They usually come with reflective strips which definitely helps!

2. If you have rim brakes, make sure the brake pads have enough compound and your rims are clear of oil and gick.

3. Use waterproof gloves, socks or overshoes. Check out the kit from Sealskins and Alpkit for good value quality gear.

4. Get your bike serviced. Road grime can wear transmissions, bearings and brakes. Give me a call!

With the wet weather we are having, everyone's bikes will need that extra TLC. Rain combines with grit to make a grinding paste between your brakes and your wheel rim. Check your rims aren't worn out by looking for the indicators. They can either be a dot or a groove in the braking surface. If you can't see them, it could be time to replace your rims. Give SWMbikerepairs a call if you need to replace brakes or rims and a friendly mechanic will come to you to fix the problem!

What does £35 get you?

A Specialised Globe came in this week. The brake pads could not hit the rim when the levers were pulled back to the bars. Not all the gears could be reached on the rear cassette and the bike was needing a bit of TLC.
Now the brakes are perfect, the gears running sweetly, the mudguard re-attached, tyres inflated to the correct pressure and altogether looking a bit zippier after a wipe down and a l**e.
All for £35 at a time you want and a place which suits you!

Are your hydraulic brakes feeling spongey when you pull the lever? Can you pull the lever all the way back to the handlebar? This can mean your brake pads are becoming dangerously worn, or air bubbles have leaked into the brake fluid. Give us a call if you think you need new pads, or we can bleed the air out of your system. Problem sorted!
