With this project, the objective was simple. Reduce the material wastage to a minimum.
The cut leg details not only provided a remarkable aesthetic but enabled the use of readily available materials in the most efficient manner. From one length of European Ash dowel, two components could be generated at ease with practically zero waste.
At Studio You &i we were able to educate ourselves on how to limit the ecological impact of design through materials, manufacturing processes and post-consumer life such as repair and maintenance. Threading these ethics through this product strengthens the relationship between the person and the product, affirming we as designers and consumers have a responsibility for the entire lifecycle of our products.

Materials:
> Re-wool by Kvadrat is a rich upholstery textile with a sustainable profile. Crafted using 45% recycled wool, the textile is partly made by reusing scraps from their yarn spinners in the UK (Huddersfield to be precise).
>European Ash - We only use FSC approved timber from sustainable forests.
In this case, the hardwood dowels were sourced from France's Bourgogne Franche-Comté region.
>Waste, what a waste? - Offcut coat hooks. Sawdust used as a spillage cleaner and firelighters.
