Trees on The Green

Trees on The Green Community arts' project to add interest on the high street in Catford, London, SE6. Or to reflect the seasons. Many thanks for donations from the public.

Originally funded by The Community Development Fund / The Cabinet Office in 2015. “Trees on the Green”

This is a community art project, originally funded by the Government’s Community Development Foundation, administered by the Rushey Green Community First Panel in September 2014. The Tree sculptures are decorated regularly to bring attention to a local, national or international event. February

2016 - subsequent funding from the London Borough of Lewisham and also through the crowd-funding site, Space Hive. October 2016 - funding from Rushey Green Community to build raised flower beds at the site, the Beds on the Green. delays due to illness and to the restructuring of departments at Transport for London (who administer the site). TfL donated all the railway sleepers soil and were supportive of what we were doing. ABOUT the TREE SCULPTURES
These trees develop leaves and “grow”, changing colours with the seasons. What is more exciting is that the Trees have been decorated many times to celebrate events throughout the year. At times, the Trees are like a calendar, marking the year. Over the years, local schools, groups have been involved in making these displays special. The people working on Trees on the Green are volunteers. We want the people of Rushey Green to be proud of where they live and proud of these unusual Trees, which will send out a good message to everybody who walks or drives by on the busy Red Route, the A21. The Beds on the Green have brought meadow flowers and more to the heart of Rushey Green.

Back in 2015, children at Holy Cross RC Primary were requested by their then teacher, Giovanna Finaldi, to make shamrocks and messages for the Trees. Eleven years later, here are some shamrocks that were kept in a box from what was one of the first displays at the Trees on the Green.
