🎉 A slightly belated Happy Birthday to Chris! 🎉

Chris celebrated his birthday on Thursday, and although this post is a little late, our appreciation for him certainly isn’t!

We hope you had a fantastic birthday, Chris, and enjoyed being thoroughly spoiled—you deserve it! Here’s to another great year filled with happiness, success and plenty of adventures. 🥳🎂🍻

Today’s evidence that I am still training for Scafell Pike! 🏔️🥾

With work commitments and pressure taking over this week, my step count has been seriously lacking — so with only three weeks to go, I need to quite literally step up my game! 😂

This morning started with Valentines parkrun, completing the 5K in 39:54. I know that isn’t fast compared with many runners, but after a late night and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, I’m just pleased I got up, turned up and did it! 🍷🏃‍♀️

Later, the walking boots are finally going on for their first proper 10,000-step walk with Talula 🐾 I’m hoping to start breaking them in without collecting too many blisters along the way! 🤞

Every step is taking Laura and me closer to Scafell Pike and raising funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of our mums ❤️

A fantastic day at the Annual Charity Golf Day, raising vital funds and awareness for Sycamore Trust UK. ⛳️💜

A huge well done and thank you to everyone involved in organising the day, sponsoring the event, donating and showing their support for such a wonderful charity.

Sycamore Trust UK is a cause particularly close to my heart. They supported my daughter Lavinia following her autism and Asperger’s diagnosis, helping our family with understanding, guidance and support when we needed it.

It was lovely to combine a day of golf and laughter with friends while supporting a charity that makes such a meaningful difference to autistic people and their families throughout our community.

Proud that The Abbey Group could support such a special day. 💜

🥾 Anyone want to guess where I am?! 😂

Yes… I’ve finally admitted that climbing a mountain probably requires something slightly more appropriate than trainers!

Are they pretty? Absolutely not. 🤣
Are they practical? Apparently so!
And I’ve even invested in the proper walking socks in an attempt to avoid the dreaded blisters. Who even am I?!

With 4 weeks to go until Laura and I take on Scafell Pike, the boots now need breaking in — so I have a feeling these beauties are going to become part of my everyday wardrobe for the next month. 🥾⛰️
It did make me think about work though ……sometimes practicality, preparation and having
the right tools for the job matter far more than appearances.

It’s exactly the same at Abbey Group Services. Whether we’re attending a fire or flood damaged property, assessing sentimental furniture and artwork, or working back at the workshop, preparation and the right specialist knowledge and equipment can make all the difference to what can be saved and restored.

So today I’m taking my own advice: prepare properly, use the right equipment and hopefully achieve the best possible outcome! 😂

All in aid of the British Heart Foundation ❤️, in memory of our mums.

Now to break these ugly beauties in without breaking myself first… wish me luck! 😂🥾⛰️

🚚 A little bit of restoration, a little bit of driving practice… and perfect timing! 🚗

Earlier today, our Abbey Group team headed to Suffolk to return a policyholder’s antiques and furniture following a flood — pieces that had been safely removed, brought back to our workshop and given the specialist care and restoration they needed before returning home. ❤️

This delivery was a little different for me though, because I had my own chauffeur — Cameron! 😂

With his L plates firmly on, Cameron drove me from Romford to Suffolk, giving him some valuable experience of a longer journey, different roads and plenty more miles behind the wheel.

And, considering he is hopefully part of the 9th generation of our family business, there was another bit of learning going on too — seeing first-hand what happens at the other end of the restoration process when our team returns customers’ possessions back to their home.

Somehow, despite travelling separately, Cameron and I arrived at exactly the same time as the Abbey van! Clearly his timing is already up to Abbey standards. 😂👏

It was great to see the restored pieces safely back where they belong and another flood claim reaching the part we all like best — returning possessions to their owner.

Then it was L plates back on for the journey home… 🚗😬

Driving lesson and work experience rolled into one! ❤️

💔 Rest in peace, Dolly Parton 💔

What an absolute legend. ❤️

I’ve always loved Dolly — her personality, her humour and, of course, her music. There are so many brilliant songs, but 9 to 5 will always be one of my favourites. 🎶

Although, working in the family business and the world of insurance claims and restoration, I’m still trying to work out exactly what this 9 to 5 she sang about actually is… 😂 I’m pretty sure Dolly forgot the verses about the phone ringing after hours, emergency call-outs, reports, quotes and “just one last email”!

An incredible woman with an unmistakable voice, huge personality and songs that will continue to be played for generations.

🎶 Working 9 to 5…
If only, Dolly! 😂

🤣 Laura’s motivational support continues…

So tonight Laura sends me a video of two friends climbing a mountain. One of them is doing it for the first time, loses her footing, falls over and basically sacks it… while her friend stands there laughing at her! 😂⛰️

Laura clearly thought this was the perfect video to send to someone who has NEVER climbed a mountain before and is currently questioning every life choice that led to agreeing to climb Scafell Pike! 🤦‍♀️😂

Very encouraging, Laura. Thanks for that. 🤣

And then the terrifying realisation…

🚨 FOUR WEEKS THIS SATURDAY!! 🚨

The Dangerous Duo will be taking on Scafell Pike together, raising money for the British Heart Foundation ❤️ in memory of our mums.

At this rate, I’m not sure whether I need more training, better walking boots, knee pads… or just someone following behind to catch me! 😂

But jokes aside, every step, stumble and probably swear word will be worth it if we can raise as much as possible for such an important charity. ❤️

If you’d like to support us and give me a little extra motivation to actually make it to the top — and back down again! — we’d be incredibly grateful:

Now THIS is my kind of mountain training! 😂⛰️🕺

Started the day with parkrun to get the official training out of the way… then somehow managed to clock up 22,458 steps at an 80s festival, dancing from 3pm until 10pm! 🎶💃

Surely seven hours of dancing to 80s classics counts as endurance training for Scafell Pike?! 😂 My legs certainly think so!

I have to say, I much preferred today’s training to running up and down 194 steps ten times! 🤣

With our Scafell Pike challenge getting closer, every mile, step, hill and apparently 80s dance move is going towards getting mountain-ready — all while Laura and I raise money for the British Heart Foundation ❤️

Although I’m not entirely sure Martin Kemp and an Aperol or two are included in the official Scafell Pike training programme… 🍹😂

22,458 steps. 5K parkrun. 7 hours of 80s dancing.
I’m counting that as a VERY successful training day! 💪⛰️❤️

EVIDENCE that the Dangerous Duo are actually training! 😂⛰️❤️

Tonight’s Scafell Pike training involved a little trip from Chalkwell to Leigh-on-Sea… although Laura’s idea of a pleasant evening out and mine may be slightly different! 🤣

The challenge:

🪜 194 steps UP
🔟 10 times
😳 That’s 1,940 steps climbed — plus the 1,940 back down again!
🏃‍♀️ And a run from Chalkwell to Leigh-on-Sea thrown in for good measure.

By the end, I think the photos accurately demonstrate the progression from “we’ve got this!” 👍 to “why on earth did I agree to climb a mountain?” 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

But… we did it. TEN TIMES. 💪

And because balance in life is important, the run back may have been slightly interrupted by an Aperol Spritz 🍹 and an ice cream 🍦.

I believe the technical term is refuelling. 😂

With Scafell Pike getting ever closer, we know we need to put the work in. Every run, every hill and every one of those blooming 194 steps is getting us ready for the real thing.

We’re doing it all to raise money for the British Heart Foundation ❤️, in memory of our mums and for a cause that means so much to us.

So here is tonight’s photographic evidence — training completed, legs questionable, Aperol deserved! 😂

1,940 steps up. 1,940 steps down. One Aperol. One ice cream. Zero regrets… until tomorrow morning! 🤣⛰️
