🍺 National Beer Day Britain – Raising a Glass to Restoration 🍺

Today marks National Beer Day Britain, celebrated every year on 15th June to commemorate the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215, which included a clause standardising the measurement and quality of ale across the kingdom.

Over 800 years later, beer remains a cherished part of British culture, bringing people together to celebrate milestones, make memories, and enjoy time with family and friends.

At The Abbey Group, we understand that many of life’s most treasured moments are connected to the possessions we hold dear. Whether it’s a favourite armchair where stories were shared over a pint, a dining table that has hosted countless celebrations, a piece of artwork collected during special travels, or a rug that has witnessed generations of family gatherings, these items are often worth far more than their monetary value.

When fire, flood, escape of water, or accidental damage strikes, we work closely with insurers, loss adjusters, and policyholders to restore and preserve those treasured possessions. Our specialist teams are experts in the restoration of rugs, furniture, artwork, and contents, helping customers recover not just their belongings, but the memories and stories attached to them.

Much like the Magna Carta helped establish standards centuries ago, our commitment today is to deliver the highest standards of restoration, customer care, and technical expertise. By restoring rather than replacing wherever possible, we help reduce claim costs, minimise waste, and retain the sentimental value that simply cannot be bought again.

So whether you’re raising a pint of bitter, lager, stout, or ale today, here’s a toast to preserving history, protecting memories, and restoring what matters most.

🍻 Cheers from The Abbey Group! 🍻

Restoring possessions. Preserving memories.

Congratulations to Sir Kevin Sinfield on his well-deserved knighthood. 👏💙

This honour recognises not only his outstanding sporting achievements but also his incredible commitment to raising awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease, bringing hope and support to so many families affected by this cruel disease.

His work means a great deal to me personally. My best friend, Della, who I first met at college, sadly passed away from MND. We shared more than 25 years of friendship, laughter, support, and memories. Watching her battle this illness was heartbreaking, but she faced it with tremendous courage and dignity.

Today, I remember Della and all those affected by MND, while also thanking Sir Kevin Sinfield for shining a light on this disease and helping drive vital research and support for those living with it.

Della will always be in my heart and never forgotten. 💙

🔴🇬🇧 A Red-Letter Day for Tradition and Restoration 🇬🇧🔴

Today, King Charles III celebrated his Official Birthday with the magnificent Trooping the Colour parade in London, featuring precision military displays, a spectacular Red Arrows flypast, and the Royal Family’s appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The striking red seen throughout today’s celebrations—from the ceremonial uniforms to the trails of the Red Arrows—symbolises tradition, excellence, and pride. It’s also a colour closely associated with Abbey Group, reflecting our commitment to protecting and restoring valuable possessions when they need expert care most.

At Abbey Group, we specialise in:

🪑 Furniture Restoration
🎨 Fine Art Conservation
🧶 Rug & Carpet Cleaning and Restoration
🔥 Fire Damage Restoration
💧 Flood Damage Recovery
🏠 Accidental Damage Claims

Working alongside loss adjusters, insurers, and policyholders, our experts help restore cherished furniture, artworks, rugs, and antiques affected by fire, flood, and accidental damage.

Just as today’s celebrations honour and preserve Britain’s heritage, Abbey Group is dedicated to preserving the items, craftsmanship, and memories that matter most.

Happy Birthday, Simon (aka Monty)! 🎉🎈🧁

Hope you have a fantastic day and enjoy a whole weekend of celebrations! Thank you for over 15 years of hard work as Abbey’s cabinet maker — your skill, dedication, and good humour are all hugely appreciated.

You may be one of the easiest people in the workshop to prank, but you always take it all in good spirit, which is one of the many reasons everyone enjoys working with you!

Have a great session with your teammates down the pub, make the most of your birthday celebrations, and we’ll see you on Monday with the birthday cakes waiting. 🍰🍻

Have a brilliant birthday, Monty! 🎂🎉

🎉🎂 Happy Birthday, Martin! 🎂🎉

Today we’re celebrating a truly valued member of The Abbey Group team.

Martin, your dedication as a trainee cabinet maker and furniture restorer continues to impress us all. Your attention to detail is second to none, and your incredible memory means you’re often the person we turn to when we need an answer or a helping hand. Your commitment, skill, and positive attitude make a real difference every day.

While we’re celebrating your birthday today, you’ve thoughtfully decided to save your famous homemade cheesecake for when the whole team can enjoy it together. 🍰🍓 With a team member returning from holiday on 22nd June, nobody will miss out on one of your delicious creations—a gesture that perfectly reflects your kindness and consideration for others.

Thank you for your generosity, hard work, and the enthusiasm you bring to everything you do. We’re lucky to have you as part of the team and look forward to seeing all you achieve in the year ahead.

Wishing you a fantastic birthday filled with happiness, laughter, and celebration. Enjoy your special day! 🎈🥳

Seeking expert advice from the world’s most qualified judging panel: Facebook.

I’m trying to decide which photo should be enlarged, framed, and displayed next to my award in the office.

Which one gets your vote?

And which one looks like I’ve just been informed of a surprise audit?

For the record, no BDMA (British Damage Management Association) audience members, sponsors, celebrities, photographers, or reputations were harmed during the making of these images.

🚴‍♀️ National Bike Week (8–14 June) 🚴‍♂️

This week marks National Bike Week, organised by Cycling UK for over 100 years. The annual campaign encourages everyone to give cycling a go, swap short car journeys for bike rides, and help improve both personal wellbeing and the local environment.

While there may not be many bikes being ridden by the Abbey Group team these days, we’re still doing our bit. Over half of our team regularly walk, use public transport, or car share to get to work, helping to reduce our environmental impact.

And for those who have been with us a while, there are some fond (and slightly painful!) cycling memories. Over the years we’ve taken part in several charity bike rides, including weekends cycling through the New Forest, a challenge to cycle across all of London’s bridges, and perhaps the toughest of them all – London to Southend.

We completed them together as a team, earned the medals to prove it, and still remember the sore legs, aching muscles, and the unforgettable trauma of those saddle seats! 😅🏅

Whether you’re cycling, walking, sharing a lift, or taking public transport, every small change can make a difference.

🌸 I can buy myself flowers
📍 Columbia Road Flower Market, London

Sometimes the things we’re drawn to tell a story.

Among the blooms and bustling market stalls, I found a beautiful vintage hand-painted Denby vase—a true piece of art that immediately caught my eye. Naturally, I couldn’t leave it empty, so I brought home armfuls of hydrangeas and flowers to christen it.

Working in insurance claims and furniture restoration, I’m reminded every day that damaged, forgotten, or overlooked treasures often deserve a second chance. Whether it’s restoring a cherished piece of furniture after a loss or appreciating the craftsmanship of a vintage find, there’s something special about preserving beauty and history.

✨ Fresh flowers, good friends, a vintage Denby treasure, and a reminder that happiness can often be found in the simple things we choose for ourselves.
