Trend Alert ๐Ÿšจ - Materials of Morality
We are excited to see an emergence of new and innovative materials that are designed with environment in mind. In 2018 we will observe that a growing number of consumers and small-scale designers will continue to pressure big brands and manufacturers to adopt eco-solutions as well as closed loop product lifecycles.

No. 2 from - Material is described as a non-woven and it utilises the abundance of pineapple leaves, wchich are a byproduct of current agricultural practices established for food production. The long fibres are extracted through a process called decortication. Once the leaves have been stripped of fibre the leftover biomass can be used as a nutrient-rich natural fertiliser or a biofuel, so nothing is wasted. The fibres then get degummed and undergo an industrial process to become a non-woven mesh, which forms the base of Piรฑatexยฎ. The rolls of non-woven mesh are then transported to Spain for specialised finishing. This unique process is what gives Piรฑatexยฎ its leather-like appearance, creating a textile that is soft and flexible, yet very durable. Terracotta - is a type of earthenware that is naturally porous after being fired. It can be unfinished or finished with glazing for a more glossy feel and look. It is very flexible in terms of design possibilities. It can come in the shape of a tile, ceramic, sculpture, furniture, accessory. This material has been very popular in 2017 and is not leave the spotlight just yet! Interesting fact: Terracotta means 'fired earth' in Italian!
