Travelling to Denmark and Sweden searching out auction houses, antique fairs and private individuals to find interesting unusual furniture is something I have always enjoyed. I have always been interested in antiques having studied fine arts valuation at university. But it wasn't until I worked at Skandium a modern design store in london and later at Lots Road Auctions that I really became interes
ted in mid century design. I take care once I have found nice things to restore them well, to bring them back from the dead so they look amazing again. I go to great trouble to use tradition techniques like French polishing and soap finishing wood in keeping with the traditions of cabinet making from Scandinavia. I use beautiful expensive fabrics favouring wools, linens and velvets from Danish & Swedish brands like Kvadrat, Svensson and Gabriel. I like to select colours that are in keeping the 1950’s/60’s mid century modern era, a cool restrained palette. Steering away from battleship grey and other dull and uninteresting tones which I feel are a waste when there is so many rich and vibrant fabrics out there.
