Shop Local This Christmas.

Calling all businesses in Powys …

We want to showcase all the wonderful delights that shopping locally this year can offer.

We are offering a free listing on our website www.MidWalesMyWay.com to all types of businesses with seasonal offerings, including christmas gift ideas, arts and crafts, food and drink, decorations, gift/days out vouchers and lots more.

To run alongside the website listing we will also be running a shop local campaign at the start of December across our social media channels () where we will be promoting the wonderful towns of Powys in a '12 days of Christmas' campaign.

The aim is to help boost the local economy and provide a platform to help local independent businesses promote themselves and their products in the lead up to Christmas.

Free 2 hour parking across Powys Towns from July 25th through to Aug 31st.

Latest news: Two-hours free parking to help town centres

Powys County Council’s initiative is being expanded to include two-hours free parking in all council pay and display carparks during the school summer holiday.

Beginning on Saturday 25 July, the day after the schools in Powys break up, the two-hours free parking will remain until the last day of the summer holidays, Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August.

Traditionally a busy time of year, the council are keen to make the most of the holiday season and encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the unique and historic towns within Powys and businesses.

“The recent lockdown restrictions have meant that many local businesses have either had to be closed for a significant amount of time or have changed the way in which they continued to trade.” Explains Cllr Heulwen Hulme, cabinet member for Highways. “With regulations easing, we are delighted to see our high streets being bought back to life once again.”

“Town councils, businesses and residents have already been extremely accommodating, making sure that premises and public areas are safe and accessible to shoppers to return to our town centres with confidence. By providing two-hours free parking for everyone at this crucial time, we hope to encourage even more people to visit and support our wonderful towns.”

Further to our post on 30th June, we would like to notify all our lovely customers that PCC staff will be coning off the two parking spaces outside Lloyds Bank on Middleton Street sometime tomorrow, Friday 3rd July. We are assured that the restriction will be removed when Welsh Government's social distancing requirements are reduced below 2 metres.

Further to a meeting held this morning where representatives of the Traders Group met with Powys County Council, our County Councillors and our Town Council regarding the proposed measures to temporarily remove on-street parking from Middleton Street, we have received the following response:

Following our discussion the 3 County Cllrs and I observed the Lloyds bank side of the street and consider it appropriate to cone off the 2 parking bays outside Lloyds Bank since the queuing outside the shop was fairly continual and leads to difficulties for others to pass at a 2m distance. The pavement widens by Barclays so people are able to pass by whilst queues form outside or when people use the ATM.

At this point there are no issues with queuing outside any other shop and therefore agreed no measures would be needed to assist in those locations.

The measures will be reviewed should the situation change for whatever reason.

I will advise when we are able to implement this in due course.

Llandod Traders would like to thank Powys County Council for listening to our concerns and County Councillors Councillor Jake Berriman Llandrindod North, Cllr Pete Roberts & Councillor Jon Williams, and Llandrindod Wells Town Council for their continued support.

If any member of the public has any concerns relating to social distancing measures in our retail areas, can we please ask that you discuss with one of our shopkeepers and we'll ensure that we address any issues in a timely manner.
