40 years of Arena Studios 🎊🎉🎈

Call for Contributions: Open Archive – Arena Studios’ 40th Anniversary

Arena Studios is celebrating 40 years of supporting artists in Liverpool! To mark this milestone, we are creating an exhibition and digital archive that will gather stories, photographs, film, and other archival material from across the decades. This will be an ongoing, evolving archive open to continuous contributions.

We’re not entirely sure of Arena’s exact founding date - sometime between late 1984 and early 1985. Maybe you can help fill in the gaps? Were you involved in setting up Arena Studios or a member in its early days on Duke Street? Do you have memories of Arena’s famous Auctions, its moves to Jordan Street and then Elevator Studios, or its fun filled Light Night events? Perhaps you helped with its management or simply have a story that captures the spirit of Arena at any point in its history.

We’re looking for:
• Stories and memories (written or recorded)
• Photographs and video footage
• Posters, flyers, and other memorabilia
• Anything else that helps tell Arena’s story

We know there have been plenty of ups and downs along the way. We expect controversy and contradictions! 😅

Our next exhibition and the last one for October is 'Ni de aqua, Ni de all' created by artists Talia Belen Laing and Stephanie Trujillo

The PV is this Friday 25th from 6-10pm and then the exhibition will be open from 12-4pm each day until 3rd November.

In this exhibition the artists explore their duel heritage and pay homage to Peru from a unique multi-cultural lens. Through applying Andean traditions of textile, weaving, craft and other mediums, the Stephanie and Talia question their own sense of identity, home and belonging and embrace their state of 'in-between-ness'

Our PV tonight is the start of an exhibition of recent work by David Jacques:

'The Cyborg Insects and the Sargasso
The Sargassum and the Entrepreneur'

The PV is from 6 - 10pm tonight and then the exhibition is open from 12 - 4pm daily until the 19th.

Daniel Halsall and Josie Jenkins Artist's exhibition has been extended and is now on until Sunday 8th September.

Thanks to Arena Studios & Gallery for the fab images and come over and have a look round a fantastic show.

It is open from 1-5pm each day.

The galleries have been resting quietly for most of this month but we start back up with a fabulous show next Thursday.....an exhibition by Arena Studios & Gallery studio members Daniel Halsall and Josie Jenkins.

Josie Jenkins and Daniel Halsall are both based at Arena Studios in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool. With adjacent studio spaces, the artists often work alongside each other, sharing music and conversation, including moments of feedback about the paintings they are working on.

With subject matter and styles varying, the linking of these two artists, through an exhibition of new work, leaves any real theme or concept to the imagination. The individual paintings speak for themselves against a backdrop of two artist friends who share a great respect for one another’s creations.

Jenkins will exhibit mainly large scale paintings of interior and landscape settings. With glimmers of wonder and nostalgia running through the work, there is also metaphorical meaning to be found in the imagery.

Halsall will be exhibiting a series of works exploring figuration, along with playful artistic jams on canvas and paper.

The PV is this Thursday 29th from 6 - 10pm and then the exhibition will be open 30th August until 3rd September from 12 - 5pm.

Come along and see some fantastic paintings within a beautiful old building.

Its our final PV for July and it's on tonight from 6-9pm.

The exhibition 'Censor' is by Sam Duxbury and Andrew Core and will run until 28th July open daily from 12-4pm.

After that we are having a bit of a rest but will be back in the last week of August with a new exhibition.

Our schedule for July and it is shaping up to be another interesting month - we start of this Saturday with the Liverpool Anarchist Bookfair and then the Red City Disco Summer Dance in the evening.

We also have two exhibitions later on in the month "Reasons to Trust' by Strike A Pose Collective and 'Censor' by S J M Duxbury and Andrew Core.
