Handcrafted bespoke Scottish ash edition of our Origin Collection 'Living Table' (for so much more than just dining and eating).
Designed, crafted, and made with sustainably sourced, hand-selected local timber, within a 20-mile radius of its eventual home (in what I must say is an absolutely stunning house!).
The table is finished in multiple layers of white hard wax-oil finish, to retain the natural look of the timber, and is inspired - as are all the pieces in our Origin Collection - by nature's elegant natural forms.

However we are still closed for the holidays today.
All the best for the coming year!

Introducing the Sabre Cabinet.
Continuing our exploration of organically inspired relief texture, realised in Scottish hardwood.
The cabinet is meticulously Sabre-Gouged from solid Scottish sycamore and hand-dyed indigo (repeatedly layered up and rubbed back for a silky-smooth finish and unique, varied depth of colour) with a solid, quarter-sawn Scottish oak top, fully recessed sliding soft-close doors, adjustable shelves and bronze details.

Today I will be exchanging my (dusty) workshop apron for my (also dusty) shopkeepers apron, and manning the til at M74 from 11am - 4pm.
It's a fantastic day to visit Linlithgow, with loads going on, including the Advent Fair, Farmers Market and Carol Singing (and we do a pretty good line in handmade furniture and crafted goods - timeless, but perfect for Christmas!) Hope to see you! @ M74

Border collies, for the uninitiated, are slightly obsessive, unpredictable creatures, and like things done a certain way (a bit like cabinet makers)
28/11/2019
All of our furniture and hardwood homewares are designed and handmade less than 3 miles from the shop, at our studio and workshop - surrounded by dense spruce forest, in the Bathgate Hills above Linlithgow.
This tranquil (and today, very moody) environment informs all of our work, and ensures that each piece is made by happy craftsmen!

Our doors are open until 730pm tonight, along with an array of wonderful independent retailers on High Street!
Hope to see you there!

We agree... it is a shade early!
But with the Christmas lights set to be switched on in and the wonderful Christmas Market this weekend, we simply couldn't help ourselves!
Respect to Marisa for creating this magnificent crafty snowflake! (to me for somehow shoehorning it into a and to little Ash for guarding the door and trying to eat the offcuts)

Handmade doesn't always mean rough around the edges.
Often it means enduring, evocative goods, created by people who both passionately care about thier craft - but also deliver it in a highly professional and meticulously designed fashion.
Help us sustain artisan craft trades and jobs in the UK (and keep making special things!) and look to your local independent designer makers and retailers this festive season.

YOUR HIGH STREET NEEDS YOU!
(and so do it's small businesses)
British artisan craft supports a delicate eco-system of passionate, dedicated makers, designers and expert suppliers; together creating some of the finest sustainably made goods in the world. And (we firmly believe) enriching the cultural fabric of these Isles.
We're proud and humbled to support British craftsmanship. But we can't do it without you!
So please, if you can, help us keep the high street thriving and small independent designer/makers warm over winter, by doing some Christmas shopping locally!
You'll be glad you did! (these people make amazing things!) @ M74

The leaves are changing, and so has our signage!
Handmade, despite my shaky hand!

M74 is our passion project to design and make the kind of beautiful furniture that we would want in our own home.
Our work celebrates elegant form, clean lines and considered detail, and revels in the unique, rich character of locally sourced native materials. We are always striving to design with a light touch and to make with skill and integrity.
The M74 store, at 74 the High Street Linlithgow, is our attempt to subtly evoke the woodlands which surround the workshop where our furniture is made, less than 3 miles away. The store will showcase a new collection of our furniture and cabinetry, as well as vessels and bowls turned from local timber. It will also allow us to exhibit the remarkable figurative wood-carvings of East Lothian master-woodcarver David Robinson (my dad) and undertake bespoke furniture commissions.
We hope you will visit us, and perhaps we can become a small part of your story.
Marisa & Callum
For nearly ten years the husband and wife team, who live locally, have run the award-winning designers and makers Method Studio - which creates unique bespoke projects in wood, leather and metal for international clients including Burberry, Land Rover and Johnnie Walker.
Their work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of the Arts in London and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
The pair's design studio and workshop is located in the old Sawmill at Beecraigs Country Park - which they lovingly restored after it closed and fell into disrepair, in 2017.
