The George III yew wood and elm Windsor chair is now all back together. The arm section is fully reconstructed, and the arm support is put back with internal support to spread the strength away from the broken place.
Now for a light revive, some colouring, and this gem is ready for the client to try. I will probably end up sitting in it daily because it is very comfortable.

I have never had a piece of furniture give me the đź–•before, but this gothic yew wood Windsor chair did that the moment the carrier left on Thursday.

Photos 3 and 4 show the little problem this chair has and the fact that someone else has tried to repair it a couple of times and failed. Now it's going to be cleaned of old foam glue (doesn't work and is rubbish on antique furniture) and Cascamite glue, and I will restore this Georgian Windsor back to its full working order.

Following my earlier post and several days of work, the 18th-century mahogany tea table, which had been repurposed for its top, was meticulously dismantled, cut into appropriate widths, and subsequently converted into veneers. These veneers were then utilized to replace a previous, substandard restoration. After the surface was thoroughly cleaned, the new veneers were carefully applied. I have now completed the process of chemically treating the wood to alter its deep natural red hue to a faded, oxidized color. This will allow for precise colour matching and aging to seamlessly integrate with the existing faded mahogany of the table's base.

I recognize that the industry utilizes specialized equipment to achieve precise timber thicknesses, such as 2mm, for resawn material. However, as an independent restorer, my methodology frequently deviates from conventional approaches, emphasizing traditional techniques. This allows me to feel connected to projects completed two centuries ago by individuals whose working practices and knowledge would be familiar to me today.
After resawing the mahogany from the last post, I then hand-planed the gluing face surface and finished with the toothing plane before gluing up.

My primary area of interest lies in 18th-century Philadelphia furniture, specifically pieces commissioned by General John and Elizabeth Cadwalader from the esteemed workshops of Benjamin Randolph, Thomas Affleck, and William Savery.

Thomas Nevil (Nevell), the joiner responsible for the Cadwalader house reconstruction, maintained a day book that has been preserved. The following excerpts are drawn from this document, and I am particularly keen to analyze the payment structure for Mr. Nevil's services.

It has been established that John and Elizabeth were in Maryland attending to Elizabeth's ailing parents, during which time John's brother, Lambert, managed the payment obligations. The dates recorded in the day books also provide valuable insights into the Cadwaladers' presence in Philadelphia, as evidenced by their direct involvement in payment transactions.
