Summer makes Lewes move a tiny bit slower with an even more languid pace than usual. Its architecture begins to disappear under a wilderness of sumptuous greenery. People spill out onto the streets, in plant-filled courtyards and little tables down alleyways. A holiday feeling at home, what could be better.

True quality is not surface deep.

At Inglis Hall, quality exists throughout the layers of a kitchen. From the visible materials and craftsmanship to the hidden structure, internal cabinetry, detailing and installation.

We believe the things you touch every day matter just as much as the things you first notice visually. Weight. Texture. Precision. Longevity. These quieter details are often what make a kitchen continue to feel exceptional years later.

This was an impressive build.

Sat on the footprint of a derelict chicken shed, it is now a gargantuan vaulted cathedral of a space.

Our challenge? To breathe life, texture and soul into something with no historic character of its own. To make sense of the scale. To divide the vastness into working parts. Hardworking parts. A new architecture within the shell.

A pantry cupboard. A kitchen staple for good reason.

There’s something deeply satisfying about keeping everything in one considered, easy to reach place. Dry goods, spices, tins, morning essentials, all quietly organised behind closed doors.

Better still when bulky appliances can disappear from the worktop too, with integrated electrics tucked neatly away inside.

It’s an ambitious idea: one room to capture everything we do at Inglis Hall - or at least the essence of it. An impossible task, perhaps, but the space doesn’t overwhelm. Whilst you will find our most popular materials, traditional techniques, and beautiful details. More than anything, you’ll feel a sense of balance. A natural flow where everything belongs. A space that feels like it could easily be yours.

Our doors are open Tuesday to Friday 10am - 4pm | Monday and Saturdays by appointment.

You may have already admired these towering larder cupboards in Jay Osgerby’s impressive ‘The Sticks’ project, but their story began somewhere far less distinguished.

They were inspired by simple makers cabinets. Built for the workshop. Designed to bring order to tools, materials and the everyday clutter of making. Nothing more, or so we thought.

It was Jay who first saw their potential. What followed was a fascinating process of reimagining them for domestic life. Every detail - right down to the perfectly curved handle profile - considered, drawn, tested, refined and refined again.

There’s a common misconception with heritage homes that every detail must faithfully replicate the past. We disagree.

The most successful spaces aren’t frozen in time. They allow old and new to sit comfortably beside one another. A modern Quooker tap, in the right finish, can feel entirely at home beneath historic windows.

In these homes, materials matter.
Natural over synthetic. Textured over glossy. Pieces with warmth, depth and restraint.

When chosen carefully, contemporary elements don’t disrupt a period home. They allow it to keep evolving gracefully.
