I’m so thrilled to have this benchmark stool accepted by Visual Arts Scotland and Wasps Studios to show in Glasgow 🤗 🎉 🌟 ‘Cutty Balance’ has a naturally dyed 100% Scottish Blackface hand tufted wool pile top scored with loop pile texture of local prehistoric rock markings which sits on locally made wind blown sycamore and beech. Phil Crennell Artist/Woodworker made the stool Old Mill Arts naturally dye materials Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere made the Blackface wool possible and our local arts agency created the initiative to push this stool along

Now showing at ‘Future Folklore’ curated available to view at beautiful Rozelle Park, Ayr as part of exhibition programme

Rather than telling a story these works are a quiet form of future folklore; hand-tufted British wool ‘We May Become’ rug/ wall hanging and storm-fallen hard wood tufted top stools come together as something both functional and sculptural. Each work is made to be lived with, sat on, walked across, and experienced as visually and acoustically enhancing the aesthetics of a living space.

Crafted, in collaboration, with attention to material, community, and the spaces in between, where materials shift, where relationships unfold over time. Inspired by coastal thresholds and shared ecologies, my work draws on slow, reciprocal cycles and carries traces of place, people, and process.

Commission work. For a couple who are familiar with our windswept Galloway coastline and wanted lots of colour and movement. I send progress images to the commissioners on the way along to ask them what they’re happy with, what they want more of. I’d no idea this one was going to become so colourful and with so much movement!

Great home for my work. As soon as she was up we could hear improvement in the hallway acoustics. Couldn’t have got her up there without an ingenious welder, some candle wax and a pushy tool called a billiard cue!! She’s over 20kg! Team work makes the dream work 😀💪🙌🥳
