Topped out the Apse today, almost ready for the roof.

Frame restoration this week, repairing a lot of damage that was the result of improper flashing of an adjoining lean to roof, we were able to preserve all the interior sides of the timbers therefore maintaining the original look (last photo).

A bit more work on the "Apse," the lower arches and bench supports installed. Sole plate next, with that and the low stone wall it will rest on it will be just over a foot taller. We also made some progress on a test panel for it which will use Douglas fir strips woven through hazel staves. The roof will be thatched.

This project has kept us busy for quite a long time, it was virtually derelict to start with and the renovation has been from below ground to the ridge tiles and everything in-between. It has involved repairs to the timber frame and much lime work including plastering inside and out by the specialist A. J. Winter.

A model of the Notre Dame roof carpentry. Personally I'm not a fan of the wooden spire, it is beautiful in its own right but I don't think it's in proportion to the building. It's actually a late addition to the cathedral and wasn't part of the original design.

Bit of a longshot but does anyone have any recommendations for people who do custom canvas? We want to roof this in a heavy gauge over a series of rafters.
