Another before and after....

Sometimes the key coverings work loose. This can often be linked to variations in temperature and humidity conditions.
The ideal situation is to retain the coverings, so that they can be secured once more. In public spaces however, sometimes the coverings magically disappear....

I'm often asked: "do you think you'll be able to do anything with it, or has it reached the point where it's time to get rid of it?..."

This one has been sitting unloved for around 30 years. The videos will perhaps give an indication of before and after and what can be achieved, with a little hard work.

It's very rare for me to 'condemn' a piano. The final outcome usually far exceeds expectations.

This is a great example.
..for the avoidance of doubt, this is 'before' 😆

Definitely the oldest piano I've worked on so far - estimated by the owner to be dated around 1830 - 1840.
Robert Wornum pocket grand, also a first for me.
Besides needing tuned, the keys were rather uneven and needed some help to have things playing/feeling the way they should.

Happy to report that it is now a 'playable' instrument once again 😉

Spent a little while at Seahorse Bookstore in Ardrossan today, working on a new addition to their lovely shop. It was lovely to chat with the owners and learn a little about their business and to see the vast range of books etc. that they have available.
I even spotted a few music books!
If you are looking for some good reading material within the North Ayrshire locale, I'd definitely say they'll be able to help.
The piano is available for anyone to play and they even have some musical evenings planned, the first one being tomorrow (Thursday 6th July).

Time to test the power of social media.... I was contacted by a gentleman in the Helensburgh area some time ago, who asked me to tune his piano. We agreed that this could be done when I was next working in the area.

I was looking for his contact details earlier in the week, but apparently I have written the details somewhere 'safe'.... so safe in fact, that I cannot lay my hands on them.

If this little tale rings any bells with someone from Helensburgh, please feel free to get in touch and we can get a suitable date arranged.
