Lets not forget that here at Flemings we are still renowned for bringing classic antique items for sale, rich legacies and heritage are preserved for future generations and talking of future generations then here is a classic item of furniture that would have been a staple in the home stretching back to the Victorian era.

The nursing chair originated in Victorian England as a low-seated, armless, and heavily upholstered chair. Designed specifically to assist mothers in nursing and feeding, its low height allowed mothers wearing restrictive corsets to sit comfortably and interact with young children without bending over.

Though it can obviously be used for it's original function, nowadays these are commonly re-purposed as decorative or show pieces in the home, here is a fine example in great condition,

Coal mining was the first major industrial activity to be recorded in West Fife. The monks of the Abbey of Dunfermline were recorded as digging for coal as early 1291.

The legacy of this industry, including Miners Institutes in Steelend, Valleyfield and Oakley, can still be seen across the region.

Coal miners in the United Kingdom often had hidden talents which were contradictory to the hard and often brutal work underground. One such talent was coal carving.

A niche art which some miners engaged in using the medium they knew best. The tools they used were everyday utensils such as penknives, simple files and abrasive paper or emery cloth.

Here's a small example of just how skilled these men actually were and a variety of items ranging from plaques, figures, animals, even vehicles were all carved from coal.
