West Country’s finest!!

Happy Friday

If we’ve not met before I’m Lucy, Hi! I’m a fixer of all things old, really old, really really old and everything else. I’m a seat weaver, upholsterer and leather restorer.

I adore fixing heirloom furniture, love a good chair, drinking coffee and eating cake and making gifts for just about anyone that needs a gift - it’s usually a cake gift.

I’m currently based just on the outskirts of town borrowing a corner of a mates workshop 🙏🏻 and my team consists of myself, myself and Oh, myself.

So if you’ve got old antique chairs, vintage retro numbers, some wobbly old dining chairs or a massive Bergere Suite that is looking a little worse for wear then hit me up with an email, a buzz or text.

"To the CEOs of the ‘Big Six’ supermarkets; Ken Murphy (Tesco), Simon Roberts (Sainsbury’s), Stuart Rose (ASDA), David Potts (Morrisons), Giles Hurley (ALDI), and Ryan McDonnell (LIDL).

British farming needs your help - almost half (49%) of fruit and veg farmers fear they will go out of business within the next 12 months, with the behaviour of supermarkets being a leading factor. And while farms are closing their gates, supermarkets are reporting record profits.

The Big Six’s buying practices are all too often imbalanced, short term and wasteful. Farmers are denied commitment or security – with whole crops rejected at the last minute in favour of cheaper options elsewhere, or just because supermarkets change their mind.

Good food ends up rotting in the field. Farmers are left without payment for their crops. And without a stable, reliable income, they are struggling to survive.

These practices threaten the livelihoods of hardworking farmers, and jeopardise the availability of fresh, healthy, and locally grown food for shoppers. If farms continue to close, the British produce that customers know and love risks disappearing from your shelves altogether.

Over two-thirds (69%) of fruit and veg farmers agree that tougher regulations are required to redress the imbalance of power between farmers and supermarkets. That’s why Riverford Organic Farmers is joining forces with farmers to call for urgent change. The support behind us is clear, as you can see from our signatories.

We are asking all supermarkets to make these five commitments to farmers:

Pay what you agreed to pay.

Buy what you committed to buy.

Agree on fair specifications.

Commit for the long term.

Pay on time.

The government also needs to stand up for British food and farming, through robust regulation of the relationships between supermarkets and your suppliers. The current policy is completely inadequate and rarely enforced. We’re creating a petition asking Parliament to take action.

Supermarkets can play a vital role in building a more sustainable future for the farmers who keep your shelves stocked. But long-term food security requires long-term cooperation – not just a short-term drive for profit. You have the power to do more; we can’t do it without your help.

Show us your support, and let’s ."

I'm no longer taking on commissions and am in the process of selling nearly all of my 'ripe for restoration' & restored chairs.
I will be putting them on Ebay &/or FB marketplace. I haven't tried the latter yet but will see what luck that brings.
They will nearly all have extremely low starting prices.
I am also selling my Jet 1220 wood turnin lathe if anyone is interested.

Silent child of war

I saw, my school, the houses, our homeland receding,
I saw, people crying and screaming, or silent just bleeding,

I saw, grown ups in tears, hands scrabbling in the dirt
I saw women holding back their pain, their eyes calling out with hurt

I saw people sitting round me, just praying on the ground
I saw people lying dying, not making any sound

I saw the dusty stillness, I breathed the stench of fear
I saw people calling out with pain, but I never shed a tear

I saw a burning fiery sky, a reddish golden hue
The inner hurt and pain I felt, I hid, so no-one knew

I held my mother’s hand as we walked away from our life
Not knowing if I’ll see my father again, cuts me like a knife

I will be strong, I will be silent, I will do what I’m told
I am now a child of war so I will be as good as gold

As we crowd for shelter, I shake from all the noise
I wish I were in my bedroom with all my favourite toys

I hope people will remember what we are going through
So please continue to remember us when the news items subdue.
