Custom-made covers: from template to the final piece

✨️These two vintage Parker Knoll chairs were the final red upholstery project on my upholstery bench before transitioning to a new color theme.💚✨️

🧵They had been stored in a garage for a couple of years, awaiting upholstery, making it a complex job. They were stripped of their old upholstery and fillings, thoroughly washed, lightly sanded, dyed, and varnished. Additionally, I had to glue the frames. Then it was time for new springs and covers.

✨️The customer's brief was clear: they wanted the chairs to look like the original, preserving the age marks on the wood, and covering in red and black pattern.

💥Here's what they said.

💬'Jana refurbished 2 Parker Knoll chairs for us. She was so helpful with the choosing of materials and even sourced different ones, when I could not decide. She delivered them this morning and they are perfect. She renewed springs as needed and as we requested, made the seat cushions slightly thicker. We asked for the wooden frame work to be sorted, as it had a bit of a wobble, but that she did not lose the history of the chairs, by only doing a light sand and varnish. Her work is perfect and she also kept the Parker Knoll original labels and was able to tell us that another label, said they were made in 1954.'💬

🙏Thank you, Simone!

✨️I might post more on the labels topic in a static post.

74-mile round-trip train & bike commute 🚆🚴‍♂️ in the Scottish Highlands

Efficient? No.

Convenient? No.

Morning happiness? ✅ Absolutely yes.

Especially on a sunny day with no wind. 🙈

Thanks for fixing my bike

📆Four years into this upholstery journey - and wow, what a ride it’s been!

❌️I always say that if it weren’t for my wee red hut, I probably wouldn’t still be doing this. Being able to nip down to the beach for a cuppa on a tough day is definitely a privilege, and I’m so grateful for it.🍵

♻️There’s truly no better feeling than finishing a long project, doing a little photoshoot, tidying up, and delivering it to a happy customer while it’s still daylight, around 4pm-ish 🙄

💻I know my website (and this space!) could use a bit of an update… I’m a bit of a procrastinator on that front. But I will work on it - promise. 💛

Spring in the Highlands - cold, rain, daffodils and lambs 🥹

I'm hoping to cycle a bit more in the upcoming weeks so that I can stop and have a proper look at some cute little lambs.

Last week was all about train and bus journeys they certainly add to the adventurous aspect of a commute.

I also 'got my workshop back' after weeks of bigger projects and way to much stuff in it. 🎉

This green window seats was long on the waiting list, but it's finally done and installed back in its home. Ready for grandchildren!

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣

Dining chairs reupholstery

Such a beautiful day todayan unbelievable 18°C, so it had to be an outdoor job.☀️

❄️The fashion police would have arrested me, but two jackets and a blanket are the ultimate winter workshop gear!🥶 at least until the wood burning stove kicks in 🔥.

💛I worked on this chairs back in autumn 2025. I loved this choice of yellow with contrasting piping. Beautiful fabric, but also so nice to work with.

💔I lost all of my 2025 camera footage as I was procrastinating on downloading it from the SD card and then the card gave up on me.

So here's my phone footage only.🙈

The season of outdoor working has officially begun ☀️🌊 most pieces I work on are just a bit too big to carry them in and out multiple times, but this footstool was just perfect for that.

✨ Happy New Year 2026! ✨

Thank you all for following my journey with Red Hut Furniture. I really appreciate the support. 🙏

2025 has been a fun and busy year, working on a mix of commercial and residential upholstery projects.
At the start of the year, I worked on bench seating for Glenalbyn Pub in Inverness, followed by the Lock Inn in Fort Augustus. Later in the year, I made cushions for Marine Diesel Services, crane chairs for GAC Invergordon, and more benches for Inverness Golf Club.

Alongside that, I worked on a variety of residential pieces - sofas, chairs, custom-made cushions, and sofa cushion replacements.

I also had three creative projects on the go, and I’m so happy that more and more people are finding my work and wanting a creative piece made by me 💛

You can still find my creative pieces at Gallery in Dingwall — even though it’s been a little while since I made something new 🤭
Here’s to another creative year ahead! ✨🍻

A local artist liked the Red Hut so much that she painted it. I can’t blame her - thank you, Audrey! ✨️
