A pair of rather grand Portland Limestone fireplaces, crafted from one of Britain's most iconic building stones.

For this project, we travelled down to Portland to source the stone before bringing it back to our Chiltern Hills workshop for fabrication. The finished fireplaces feature matching Portland Limestone surrounds, hearths and interior slips, creating a beautifully cohesive look throughout.

Portland Limestone has been used in some of the country's most recognisable buildings for centuries, valued for its strength, character and timeless appearance.

There’s something particularly special about taking a block of stone from the quarry and transforming it into a centrepiece that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Thinking about a bespoke stone fireplace for your home? We'd love to hear about your project.

A lovely project we worked on in Rickmansworth using Antalya Limestone, sometimes also known as New Cream Limestone.
-
We supplied and installed the stone around the swimming pool along with the surrounding paving and detailing. It’s a material that works beautifully outdoors thanks to its soft light tones, natural variation, and timeless appearance.
-
Limestones like this have a way of making outdoor spaces feel calm, warm and established — especially in the sunlight.
-
Natural stone and landscaping are a combination that never really go out of style.

Sun shining outside, but the factory is still in full flow.
-
The team are busy cutting, measuring, polishing, packing and preparing the next round of projects leaving our Chiltern Hills workshop.
-
Every kitchen worktop, fireplace, staircase and bathroom starts right here — with raw slabs of stone, skilled hands, and a lot of attention to detail.
-
It takes a huge amount of work behind the scenes to turn natural stone into something ready for someone’s home, and these photos are just a small glimpse into that process.

Brazilian slate floor and steps that we installed several years ago, still looking as good as the day we installed it.
-
This flooring and stair set was crafted using Brazilian slate with a natural riven finish, including bullnose treads and rises throughout. We often recommend Brazilian slate for high-use areas because it tends to be harder and more durable than many Italian slates, which can mark and scratch more easily over time.
-
The textured riven finish also helps disguise everyday wear, making it a practical choice for busy homes while still retaining plenty of natural character.
-
Natural stone done properly should look just as good years later as it did on day one.

It all starts with a raw block of stone quarried from the ground.
-
This is the part most people never see: the measuring, planning, shaping, and problem solving that happens long before installation day. Every project starts as a rough piece of natural material, and through careful craftsmanship it’s transformed into something precise, refined, and built to last.
-
Working with stone requires more than machinery. It takes experience to understand the material, read its movement, and shape it in a way that brings out its best qualities.
-
That’s the difference true stonemasonry makes.

Here are the 3 most popular finishes for marble. Each finish gives the stone a completely different feel.
-
Polished marble has a high-gloss, reflective surface that enhances colour and veining beautifully. It’s elegant and timeless, particularly suited to bathrooms and lower-use areas. One thing to consider is that polished marble can show etching more easily, especially from acidic substances.
-
Honed marble has a softer, matte appearance with a smooth, understated finish. It’s one of the most popular choices for kitchens and contemporary interiors, offering a more relaxed look where etching tends to be less noticeable.
-
Leathered marble has a subtle texture and soft sheen, giving the surface more depth and character. It’s often used for statement pieces and feature islands, while also being very practical for disguising fingerprints and everyday marks.
-
The finish you choose can completely change how the stone looks and performs within a space.

A bespoke fireplace crafted in Calacatta Courchia marble, paired with a Black Satinato granite hearth.
-
The marble brings bold, flowing veining with soft grey tones, creating a strong focal point within the room. Each section has been carefully selected and detailed to ensure the pattern works seamlessly across the piece.
-
The Black Satinato granite hearth provides a subtle contrast, with a smooth, matte finish that is both durable and understated, grounding the overall design.
-
Designed, manufactured, and installed to fit the space precisely.
