A 5-Day One-to-One Creative Journey.
There’s something incredibly powerful about giving someone the time, space, and support to bring an idea to life, especially when it’s something they never thought they could achieve. My one-to-one, five-day course is designed to do exactly that: take a spark of inspiration and turn it into a finished piece, crafted with skill, confidence, and pride.

So how do you go from a simple idea to a finished, handcrafted piece in just five days?

Celebrating International Women’s Day.
Honouring the incredible women who’ve stepped into the workshop, picked up new skills, challenged themselves, and created beautiful things with their own hands.
It’s been a privilege to teach, learn from, and be inspired by each of you.
Here’s to more sawdust, more confidence, and more women shaping their own space in woodworking. 🪚

In 2021 I milled a locally fallen oak tree from Cury, Cornwall. With some beautiful burr in the timber, it then spent four years air-drying.
During Cornwall Open Studios I was commissioned to create an understairs display unit for a local potter’s mug collection, using the Estyllen shelving system.
The brief was to house around 50 mugs, incorporating natural edges and a relaxed, informal arrangement.
The Estyllen shelving system is highly versatile, and this commission shows how well it adapts to a more organic aesthetic.
Completing the journey from tree to finished piece is one of the most rewarding parts of furniture making, and a satisfaction that never fades.

Danish oil is one of my preferred finishes, it brings out the natural beauty of the wood grain, letting the figure really come to life.
Applied with a simple wipe-on method, it soaks deep into the timber to enhance colour whilst building a durable, low-sheen finish over multiple coats.
Wipe on, let it pe*****te, then remove the excess. Easy to apply, easy to maintain and a perfect natural looking finish.

Can you guess the timber? Leave a comment below...

Struggling to get a square bevel on a wet stone grinder?
These tips might save you some frustration 👇

• Don’t assume the guide jig stops = a square blade.
• Micrometre variations will increase the more worn the tool, having collective knock-on effects. This is accentuated on wider blades such as planes.
• The key is know where you want the grind pattern, then adjust the stone-to-bevel contact to suit.

The new blog, From the Workbench.
This is the first of a series of ramblings on the art of sharpening hand tools. There are many different methods and it is important to try all these until you find one that suits you. This blog post 'From the Workbench' will cover the methods that I find successful and to best explain the reasons why I mainly practise free hand sharpening, without the use of honing guides.

Share with someone you know who'd be interested.
