Apologies for the lengthy silence, we've been overwhelmed with other projects and life! But we are still committed to achieving plastic free status, and to that end, we will be joining with RBC's Haslingden Regeneration Officer to do a big litter pick this Friday and Saturday.

This event will put us one step closer to our goal of that status, so if anyone can attend, even if it's just for half an hour, please do :)

Apologies for being so quiet, it has been a busy few months for us! We have been working behind the scenes but not had much time for updates.

However, we are pleased to share that the council motion has been passed! It's a huge milestone, as getting the council on board is often one of the most difficult things to do, but Rossendale Borough Council have been working on this before we started our journey, and have been great at getting this done. Thank you!

After Christmas, we will start approaching businesses in Haslingden and Helmshore in the hopes that they will sign up to go plastic free. If nayone wants more information on this, please let us know. :)

📣We need your help! We are looking for Community Allies to help support our goal to becoming an accredited plastic free community. There are 5 categories of allies, listed below 👇

👉Nurseries, schools, colleges
👉Community spaces (see attached picture for more information)
👉Community organisations (see attached picture for more information)
👉Community events
👉Community communications

To be an Ally, all you need to do is sign the plastic free pledge (as a group or an individual), talk to people about how they can reduce single-use plastic, and generally support our work.

We can send you a copy of the pledge and all we ask is that once it has been completed, you send us a photo. :)

If you are a part of any of the above and would like to support us, please send us a message :) Thank you! 💙

This is great to read and something to strive for. It can be done! 😊

🌍 From our green and blue spaces, plastic pollution seeps into our rivers and the ocean.

Plastic Free Exmoor joined our campaign in 2019, and have been an inspiration from day one. Now, in 2022, they've received the Plastic Free Communities Award and became the UK's first Plastic Free national park. By acting to stop plastic pollution at the source, the community has taken meaningful steps to further protect the park. 🏆

There are 22 businesses across Exmoor national park who've received the Plastic Free Business Champion Award, and over 40 organisations and six local schools are working towards receiving their accreditations. 🙌

"The UK’s National Parks are vital to local communities, from protecting wildlife and habitat to connecting people with nature, and the health and wellbeing benefits that has. The work Exmoor community have done to commit to their plastic free journey and spread the message far and wide has been brilliant to see. We can’t just rubbish pick our way out of the problem. By acting to stop plastic pollution at source the team are taking meaningful steps to further protect the park. Such a great effort from all involved, thank you!" - Rachel Yates, Plastic Free Communities Manager
