It’s easy to think old furniture belongs in a landfill. However ot can, more often than not, be bought back to life. Here I'm using a carbide scraper to reveal the raw, stunning wood grain underneath.

I love this work so much, giving cherished pieces a second chapter.

Every piece has potential; it just needs a little patience, craftsmanship and the right tools.

is a new paint to me, so when I saw they were hosting a paint and pastries morning I thought it would be a great opportunity to try this paint.

Painting The Past paint is VOC free and water based which I always go for. However very interestingly it is also a bio-based paint and primer in one!

It sounded too good to be true, so at the event I choose the darkest piece of furniture which I knew would have lots of wood tannins and also chose the lightest colour paint to see if it really stood up to it's claims.

Well, I think you'll agree by the video and photo that it did!

I can't wait to try this paint on a larger project. I'm thinking of something in my own home, so I can really put it to the test.

Think sticky drawers mean you have to get rid of your furniture?

Not at all.

Sticky drawers and small imperfections can almost always be fixed — and often improved.

As you can see here, these drawers don’t fit properly.
So I’m sanding back the sides slightly to give the wood the space it needs to move naturally.

Once that’s done, I’ll nourish the wood and apply a beautiful, strong, durable wax.

That not only protects the drawer, but helps it glide smoothly again.

So if your furniture is sticking, stiff, or just not working as it should, there’s no need to throw it away.

These two little chest of drawers had good bones, but they needed a complete makeover.

Before I could add the new legs, I had to build a solid base to attach them to properly. It's one of those behind-the-scenes steps that nobody sees in the finished piece, but it makes all the difference to both the look and durability.

Once the prep work was done, I painted all the edges first to create a seamless finish before carefully applying the wallpaper. Every surface was transformed, inside and out, using decoupage techniques to give these drawers a completely new personality.

It's always the little details that take the most time, but they're also what elevate a piece from simply painted furniture to something truly special.
