Meet Ade, our fantastic new volunteer at Calderdale Wood Recycling!

He's been hard at work crafting beautiful pieces from reclaimed wood.

Check out this stunning bench made from two church pews that Adrian is sitting on—what a creative design!

Ade has also crafted a rustic-style bench from scaffold boards and even a quirky bird box using a teapot! 🐦

These treasures will soon be available on our eBay store (iscal2015), or feel free to visit us in person for these and more unique creations!

Building Inclusive Outdoor Spaces with Project Challenge’s Garden Project

We’re proud to share the latest piece crafted in our workshop for Project Challenge’s Garden Project — a wheelchair accessible picnic bench, handmade from reclaimed, wood.

Inclusive design is at the heart of this project. Traditional picnic benches can unintentionally exclude wheelchair users, often leaving them positioned at the edge of the table or away from the group. This new design creates space for everyone to sit together — friends, family members, colleagues, visitors and participants.

By integrating accessibility into the furniture itself, we’re supporting Project Challenge in shaping a garden that is welcoming, practical, and inclusive for all who use it.
This bench is one of several bespoke items being made for the Garden Project, each crafted with care, purpose and sustainability in mind.

One of our clients has recently taken the next step on their journey, and we couldn’t be more proud 💙

They joined us at iscal looking for work experience, with low confidence, limited self‑belief, and concerns about judgement based on past experiences. During their time in the office, they worked closely with Gill, learning valuable admin skills and getting hands‑on experience with the day‑to‑day running of and .

From learning about our products and preparing customer quotes to answering the phone, updating spreadsheets, and capturing daily activity – including staff timesheets – they threw themselves into every opportunity.

On their final day, they surprised the team with thank‑you cards, a truly touching gesture that meant a lot to us all.

The growth in confidence and self‑belief was clear to see. Watching them realise they can work, achieve, and be part of a supportive, judgement‑free team has been incredibly rewarding.
