There’s office furniture and then there’s OFFICE FURNITURE. And this is definitely the later - what an epic home office set up! Two large cabinets with spacious drawers, either side of a huge desk with slide out keyboard shelf and shelves below. The open upper shelving gives a massive amount of storage and the LED lighting really sets the whole piece apart from anything else. The steel frame has been powder coated in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey; the ground back welds giving it a really sharp finish. All the timber is solid ash, finished with a grey wash stain and 3 coats of Osmo oil. Then the little details - birch ply dovetailed soft close drawers, Kronospan Black Pearl MFC cabinet interiors with fully height adjustable shelves and of course the lighting; RGBW LED strips, controlled via an app - easy to switch from day time work mode to evening rave at the push of a button! The install had its challenges (see the last video for the solution to the misjudged stairs!) but we got there in the end and it was definitely worth the effort 👊🏻 Absolutely goes into the list of my favourite projects 👌🏻

The Thursday of was also so what better time to look back at some of the array of epic burgers we’ve cooked on the pit BBQs over the years. From simple mince and onion smash burgers, to long and complicated versions with homemade brioche, home minced meat, excessive cheese, basted with beef tallow and loaded with extra toppings. They always hit the spot 👌🏻😋 (and likely clog the arteries… but hey, life’s too short for boring food 😉)

I couldn’t think of anything for Wednesday of so we went for ‘what can we cook Wednesday’. The answer, Paella 👌🏻 Putting the lid back on the BBQ made it an absolutely beautiful way to cook this amazing dish - keeping the smoke from the charcoal and a few sprigs of sage and rosemary swirling round the pan loaded with chicken, chorizo, arborio rice, veg, spices and stock. A simple but delicious dish, elevated by cooking it in the BBQ 😋

The Tuesday of National BBQ Week couldn’t be anything else but Taco Tuesday, however work and life got in the way yesterday so here’s a throwback to the incredible feast of flavours we smoked and cooked on the BBQ when Paul from came over. The main event was the smoked Thors Hammer birria and the lightly smoked and reverse seared carne asada tomahawk, both of which were INCREDIBLE. Also on the menu; smoked spatchcock Mexican spiced chicken, fire roasted new potatoes, chimichuri and picked onions, and fresh masa flour tortillas, all smoked, grilled and cooked from scratch on the day 👌🏻😋
🌮

You know I LOVE getting a big ol’ piece of meat on the grill, but given the weekend was pretty protein heavy we decided to embrace Meat Free Monday for National BBQ Week. And honestly, it was as varied and flavoursome a feast as any meat menu I’ve cooked; Grilled hispi cabbage with miso and sundried tomato butter, garlic mustard leaf dolmades, grilled tenderstem broccoli with lime and tahini dressing, halloumi with wild garlic gremolata, flame roasted peppers and radish, paprika butter corn ribs, and some sourdough flatbreads. And finished up with some grilled peaches with rum and dark sugar. All cooked over coals and it was absolutely delicious - and not a steak or fillet in sight!

What a way to kick off National BBQ Week! An amazing day yesterday at The Den in Stirchley helping out on the grill - my first experience of cooking in a commercial set up and I bloody loved it! The BBQ performed faultlessly with the Holm Oak charcoal burning hot and long (even hotter given the near 30 degree weather!). I was too busy cooking to get photos of the food, but it was delicious and feedback was all great 😊 Watch this space as we’re planning a more regular collab between BSSB and The Den! 👊🏻👊🏻 Massive thanks to Murray, JP, Zack and all the team at for making me feel so welcome!

First delivery after our week in France, and a cautionary tale of remembering that even the less complex installs can go awry! While drilling the last hole for the shelf brackets, I nicked the socket cable in the wall… 🤦🏻 cue a small flash, a puff of smoke and all the power going off as it tripped the RCD 😬 thankfully it was an easy fix, but still required a return visit once the sparky had been to check everything over. The job - to make a matching top and surround for a wine fridge and some wall shelves to go alongside an existing unit. I don’t usually do colour matching (as it’s a dark art…) but some research gave the panel paint code from the original cabinet manufacturer and the oak colour was very close to one of my standard stains. Frame and panel tops are also disproportionately labour intensive, but worth it to get the matching anaesthetic 👌🏻👌🏻😊👍🏻

Today is World Earth Day - a day for promoting sustainability and protecting the planet.
Part of the BSSB ethos from the very beginning has been to try and make use of as much reclaimed and recycled materials as I could in my designs, something I still try to do now. From scaffold boards to floorboards, old workbenches, copper pipes and even golf clubs - reclaimed materials can be used effectively in both commercial and domestic projects.
It’s getting harder and harder to source ‘good’ recycled stock these days; a lot of it is too damaged by the time it gets to the used market, but I still manage to get my hands on the good stuff every now and again - often for scrabbling around old decommissioned factories and workshops! Thankfully a lot of my work involves steel which is the worlds most recycled material. The lack of heating in the workshop also helps reduce our carbon footprint 😅😉 Every little helps!
Here are some photos of a few previous projects which used reclaimed materials , and some of the unusual and interesting places we’ve found them!

The BSSB BBQ Grill - the design that kicked it all off!
Not everyone wants to spend hours manning a fire and slow cooking or smoking food, sometimes you just want to build a fire and get grilling!
If you’re serious about your BBQs this is the piece of kit for you. A large grilling area suitable for multiple heat zones, which is perfect for parties and entertaining, it also comes supplied with a half height, half width grill for smaller cooks. The 3mm thick steel body and fire brick lining means it holds heat well and the adjustable end vent means fire control is easy with charcoal, briquettes or live fire. The large wide door is ideal for fire maintenance or as an extra working space for keeping food warm.
And if you decide to venture into the world of slow cooking and smoking, the smoker lid and fire box can be ordered as add ons at a later stage 👌🏻🔥 .
Regular prices # start at £1700, but as it’s their first summer I’m going to give a cheeky discount until the end of the summer - get in touch to snag your BBQ Grill for £1550 👌🏻🔥🔥🔥
