At Cairn House, the Whisky Room is a contemporary take on the traditional smoking room. A space historically associated with the quiet enjoyment of fine spirits and considered indulgence.

The brief called for more than display, requiring a space that reflected the craft and provenance of the collection it holds.

Early studies explored Scottish elm for cabinetry, but through a process of sampling and refinement, the direction evolved toward smoked oak. Its depth, richness and naturally tannic quality sit naturally with the tones of the whisky.

Bespoke patinated brass inlays are integrated into flush handle details paired with rich tan leather upholstery for the custom seating. Considered integrated lighting within the open displays highlights the colour variations in the bottles.

Cabinet making is the disciplined construction of architectural furniture.

At Angus+Mack, it’s where material, proportion and precision come together to define a space. A simple join, can either interrupt or allow it to flow.

We select timber for its durability, tone, suitability and the way it responds to light. There’s a quiet precision in something fitting exactly as it should – the weight of a door, the presence of handles, or the absence of them. Our custom cabinetry is a continuation of the architectural language.

A 12-seater dining table for Cairn House on Scotland’s East Coast, designed to complement the home’s contemporary architecture.

Four oak boards were hand-selected for continuity of colour and grain forming a book-matched tabletop. Hand-cut dovetail stitches were set into the tabletop, highlighting the character in the natural imperfections.

The Black Isle design began as a bespoke stair for a home in the Scottish Highlands. The brief asked for a contemporary, considered + cost-conscious solution.

Designed to sit comfortably within the modern new build, the semi-cantilevered form lends a sense of lightness, while a ply wall structure allows for optional integrated storage or display beneath.

Crafted from Scottish oak and paired with a glass balustrade to maximise light within the double-height space.

A custom 4-metre slimline desk, ready for install.

Crafted from rift-sawn European oak, the timber was fumed for three days in a custom-built chamber, where ammonia reacts with the natural tannins. This process deepens the wood to a rich, natural tone, highlighting the grain and subtle tonal variations, creating a durable surface finish.

Our double helical staircase for The Arbor House is formed from 200 precision-cut layers of birch ply.

Positioned at the centre of the home, the stacked structure works as a sculptural element, with floor-to-ceiling glazing allowing the stair to be seen across the whole ground floor and surrounding walled private gardens.

For our clients in Moray, we reimagined the original Linlithgow stair design, doubling the form into a gull-wing configuration, to create an entrance feature and fully bespoke stair tailored to the home.

The Linlithgow is an architectural stair defined by its straight flight and solid, monolithic timber treads. Beneath the surface, an engineered birch ply stringer delivers both strength and an unexpectedly light footprint.

At Maryfield in Inverness, the 200 year old home boasted superb Victorian oak panelling in the main hallway, with various secret doors concealed within the original joinery.

Using this as our concept, we designed and made bespoke, solid oak kitchen cabinetry, complete with pocket doors and soft lighting. Access to the pantry and new appliance fronts were designed to look like fixed panels with patinated brass handle detailing.

A bespoke staircase service tailored to your exact brief. We work as design lead with you, the homeowner, or collaborate with your architect and/or interior designer.

Our Custom Design service includes consultations, concept development, full design and build, plus installation.

→ The Core Collection
Staircase designs refined over 10 years, including contemporary, cantilevered, curved, zig-zag and traditional styles.

Each design in the Core Collection is reconfigured to suit your space, with a selection of timbers, balustrades, lighting and storage options.

Available for full supply and fit, or supply-only. Supply-only includes a site survey, design drawings, delivery, and fitting instructions for your tradespeople.
