We were recently approached by Woodworking Crafts Magazine to discuss what goes on here at TR HQ.

We talked about the inspiration behind our latest pieces, as well as the design process and techniques involved. We were also able to highlight the importance of sustainability, ethical felling, native timbers, and well-managed forests – something we’re passionate about promoting.

No two days are the same at TR HQ. From delivering workshops to designing dining tables, crafting watch boxes, and creating wall art – there’s always a buzz of activity beneath the treehouse.

But after a year of lockdowns, venturing beyond Carbeth Guthrie Estate to explore the city offered a fresh and exciting new opportunity for Derek – a project that would showcase his designs in a whole new setting. A setting worthy of a Michelin star, no less…

Here’s another sneak peek at our bespoke creation for Glasgow’s Cail Bruich.

They wanted a unique chef’s table to celebrate winning their Michelin Guide star. The key thing was they wanted the wood to tell a story. The rest they left up to us.

‘There’s no pressure, but Glasgow is watching!’, they said, so we knew we had to come up with something really special.

As far as commissions go, this one is up there with one of our most exciting to date!

We were approached by the Glasgow restaurant, Cail Bruich, to create a Chef’s Table worthy of their Michelin star.

It was an absolute pleasure to design and craft, and we were able to get really creative with our finishing techniques.

Reservations are now open if you’d like to book ahead for July and August and see it in all its glory.

Anyone, yes ANYONE can have a go at woodwork. You just need the right guidance.

And that’s exactly what we offer in each of our courses here at TR HQ.

How about creating a beautifully bespoke chopping board, for example? We’ll talk you through all the necessary techniques – such as planing (side and end grain); free-hand routing to make and insert a contrasting inlay such as a triangle, hexagon or dovetail; use of a router table for rounding edges; and finger lifts, using a scraper, and finishing.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided on the one-day course and you’ll take home a unique handmade chopping board, as well as a host of new-found carpentry skills.
