East Kilbride Men's Shed

East Kilbride Men's Shed As a community organisation we aim to encourage members of the East Kilbride and surrounding communities from 18y/o, to be more socially active.
(1)

This can be achieved through sharing of skills and knowledge whilst learning equally from other members. East Kilbride Men's Shed has existed since 2015 and until 2021 based at College Milton where we developed our activities. Unfortunately, we were evicted during the covid pandemic and had to put all our equipment in storage. The Committee and membership rallied round and aided by local councillo

rs and South Lanarkshire Council found new premises at St Leonard's that promises a great future. Often asked what we do - actually we can do almost anything, provided we have the enthusiasm of members. We engage in all manner of woodwork, craft work, engineering, electrical work, mechanics, fixing broken items (bikes etc) and general socialising. We also help other local charities when able. Our membership is open to both male and female community members so the use of ‘Men’ is a misnomer. The provision of somewhere for the community to come together helps to tackle the isolation and loneliness which is common among elderly males. We intend to improve our members’ physical and emotional health in addition to their well-being through coming together, working on projects of their choosing, building relationships with each other and learning from one another. We also provide people with community awareness so that they can find other locations to partake in activities which they are interested in. We welcome new members in order to achieve our aim of helping members of the community. In turn, our active members ideas, energies and involvement help us with the development of our ‘Shed’.

We are looking for a metal cupboard to store substances like volatile paints, solvents and varnishes. It must have a lock or be able to be fitted with one. Size? Not fussy, but probably around one metre x one metre x 150 mm deep.

Any donations or reasonably priced offers appreciated
