Unfortunately due to ill health, my dad, Jim, is no longer able to work. He is devastated by the closure of the business; which was opened not long before I was born. He genuinely loved working with all of his lovely customers- some of whom spanned generations of the one family. If he could, he'd come back in a heartbeat. We hope that my dad will now find some peace in his all too sudden retirement. To everyone who ever worked with my dad or who has a Wearwell upholstered couch- thank you! My dad remembers and appreciates all of the cups of tea and hospitality over the years. But, with a heavy heart, it's now the end of an era...

Pubs, clubs and restaurant work undertaken. We have special arrangements in place of public venues such as these. We know you cannot be without your furniture and we can therefore guarantee a quick turnaround time with 'all hands to the deck' once dates are set! This includes on site work with bar seating!

Don't get annoyed if an upholsterer cannot give you a quote over the phone. They really need to see the piece before they can give an indication of cost. It might seem like 'just a dining chair' but it might have an upholstered back piece, arms, piping, patterns that have to match up, foams needing replacing, webbing needing renewed, etc, etc...

Feet for your furniture; the feet can completely change the look of your furniture. If you are having your piece reupholstered, then consider changing the feet? Gone are the days of castor wheels hiding behind skirts, pelmets and fringe. Have a look on The Edinburgh Woodturning website.

If you have a headboard made to order for your bed, consider having scatter cushions made for on your bed or recover your dresser stool - it's nice to continue the theme somewhere else in the room...

Always ask your upholsterer if you can take the fabric samples home to see them in the room they are intended for. A slight change in light can alter the look of the fabric, so it's best to see it in the light of the intended room. Plus, you can get a better idea of how the finished piece will look...

Before cleaning your upholstery with any solution, always read the instructions. On some fabrics certain shampoo solutions can be damaging. Always begin by testing a small, unseen area of your upholstery first.

Rearrange your furniture and cushions from time to time so they retain their natural shape and get even exposure. This is particularly important with furniture bought from stores; often store furniture fillings are less hardy. If you tend to sit at the same end of the sofa each night, switch your cushions to share the wear.

Ask your upholsterer if they are willing to make arm cuffs with any left over fabric? The arms are one of the first areas to show wear and tear, so arm cuffs will prolong the look of your settee. Although, if you have a very good upholsterer, they may not have any spare fabric. Check in advance; ask them to order in extra.

Remember; When you buy a new suite - check that it will fit through your door!! Big new corner units are lovely but we have more and more people coming to us to help fit their new sofa through the door. Often the delivery company will leave it outside if they can't get it in!
