I started sharpening horse clipper blades in 1994 after seeing my family send their blades off for sharpening to a place in Reading, Berkshire, and I thought there must be somewhere closer than that, so I did a bit of research and only found two places that were close, one in Hampshire and the other in Devon, and nowhere in Dorset. I then decided to contact Lister Shearing, who were very helpful,
and helped me sort out the machines and training to use them that was needed for the sharpening of sheep shearing blades and a lapping machine for the sharpening of horse, cattle and dog trimmer blades. The lapping machines are expensive but the blade failure rate after sharpening is very low due to the high accuracy of the sharpening compared with the flat abrasive wheel type sharpening, which is not as accurate. I also started servicing and repairing clipping machines, including PAT (safety electrical) testing. Then in 2014 I was talking to my friends Leanne and Nina from Grooming Concepts dog groomers, who said they had outgrown their premises above Shreen Vets in Gillingham, and were looking to move to a larger premises. As it was I was also looking to move as well, as, for those of you who can remember, I worked from a glorified garden shed at home, and had run out of room, and needed to be in a more central place as well. Since then both businesses have gone from strength to strength, and Ninas daughter Aimee has now joined the Grooming Concepts team. I have also moved in to new and used clipper sales along with new blades, parts and grooming accessories. I have also purchased machines to sharpen Scissors for vets, hairdressers, seamstresses, knives, drill bits,woodworking tools, chainsaw chains, hedge trimmers, garden shears, pruners etc. We find both businesses run very well alongside one another, and we both gain from each others customers. Our main aim is to provide friendly, efficient services,which are affordable, with a quick turnaround and a guarantee on all work carried out.
