Fairfield Displays was set up on 1 September 1979 by Geoffrey (Geoff) Fairfield together with his wife Janice. In 1979 Fairfield Displays Ltd (there was no lighting in those days) began marketing products from a company called Corona in France, which consisted of glass counters and showcases and the ‘Sphere’ glass cube display systems. They immediately started building a Distributor base and their
very first customer was B & B Shopfitting Ltd who is still one of their customers today. They also dealt with department stores such as John Lewis and House of Fraser. They obtained offices in Farnborough above the local Bejam store and traded very successfully from there until 1990 when they purchased the freehold of their current building in Albert Street. They started selling a cable/rod system in 1980 after seeing it on display in a shop in Paris and approaching the manufacturer directly for the UK Distributorship. The French system was called Mobile Cable System. They soon developed the product to become that company’s largest distributor. The ended their contract with that company in 1993 when they subsequently designed and manufactured their own system which then gave them the ability to have it completely under their own control and also to be able to sell it world wide. The lighting started originally as an add-on to the Cable/Rod system and then developed into a ceiling mounted system called Paralight using the same rods from the display system. Other lights were added later. Fairfield's XtraLite product, a truly innovative idea, was added at the end of 1995. This came about as a result of seeing the ‘Prismex’ product advertised and imagining how great this could look on cables. SO WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT FAIRFIELD DISPLAYS & LIGHTING?
