Hello to you all, hope you’re well?

I wanted to share something that happened to me this week, because I think it highlights one of the realities of running a small business.

I was contacted by a local lady on a Friday morning and, despite already having a busy schedule, I agreed to call at her home that same afternoon on my way back.

I spent time discussing what she wanted, asking questions, taking measurements & working through the options. Later that evening, I then produced a design & sent it over. All good so far.

After that, communication became very limited.

I followed up, because as a one-man business, site visits, drawings, quotations and costings all take genuine time away from the workshop.

Eventually I was asked for a price, which I worked out. As the customer was local, I even offered to split the cost into two equal instalments to make things easier. The price was then negotiated down, and I agreed.

Then more silence again.

Messages were read, but there was very little response. Eventually I received another reply, produced the formal quotation and sent it over.

Once again… nothing.

At that point, I simply decided that the commission probably wasn’t the right fit for me or my business, so I politely declined to proceed.

I completely understand that not every enquiry becomes an order, & customers are absolutely entitled to choose who they want to work with.

But equally, as a small independent business, I am also entitled to decide whether a job is right for me.

So receiving a 1-star review simply because I chose not to proceed with a job was disappointing, to say the least.

Thankfully, the many fantastic reviews I’ve received & continue to receive speak far louder than one negative experience.

I’ll continue doing what I’ve always done — being helpful, communicating honestly, producing bespoke furniture to the best of my ability &, when necessary, recognising when a job simply isn’t the right fit.

You can’t win them all. I do hope Tracie and her Yoga business (both of which are in the public domain, so no breach of GDPR) do well.

Perfect for **kitchens, dining rooms, breakfast areas and cosy family spaces**, The Fiona creates that desirable fitted appearance while retaining all the character and individuality of genuinely handmade furniture.

Every seat lifts to reveal generous concealed storage, giving you somewhere to hide away cushions, table linen, kitchen essentials, children's toys, games and all those everyday items you'd rather keep out of sight.

A strong internal framework provides excellent rigidity, while the lift-up lids are fitted using **brass-coloured piano hinges** for a practical and attractive finish.

Made to Measure — Not Made to Fit Everyone

Standard proportions are approximately **100cm back height, 45cm seat height and 45cm seat depth**, while the overall lengths can be tailored to your requirements.

Created using carefully selected **reclaimed timber**, every Fiona has its own individual grain, markings and character.

Knots and natural variations aren't something to disguise—they're part of what makes reclaimed timber special and ensure your furniture has a character that simply can't be replicated by mass production.

Choose your preferred colour from the extensive **Valspar range available through B&Q**, allowing your new furniture to complement your existing kitchen, dining room or interior scheme.

And there's no need to decide immediately—**your final colour choice isn't required until nearer the finishing stage of your build.**

Matching **dining tables and additional seating benches** can also be created to complete your dining space.

I use a **trusted private dedicated courier** to deliver bespoke furniture throughout the UK, with the courier contacting you directly to arrange delivery.

Please see one of our latest and popular Corner Monks bench, with storage.

The "Alexandra"

This lovely image was sent in from one very happy customer, which matches customers décor and compliments the space perfectly. The throw cushions are also a perfect addition, which creates a warm and inviting look and feel to their home. Providing ample storage under the hinged lids. This one had standard back panel heights, along with seating/storage part.

Finished using VALSPAR paint which can be matched to your existing décor completes these pieces perfectly.

It was an absolute pleasure creating these pieces and they look stunning in their new homes.
