Sofa Cushion Top-Ups:-

Did you know that we can boost-up your existing sofa cushions with more feather &/or down? If you have a sofa with sagging cushions, they don’t always have to be completely remade. We can add more filling to them to make them firmer and more comfortable. This usually means less plumping too.

The example in the video featured belonged to a customer who bought the sofa only one year ago. They were finding the fibre/feather cushions far too soft and untidy looking. We added more feathers to the cushions which gave more support and structure.

Costs vary depending on how much filling is required. Expect to pay around £50 to £75 to boost-up each cushion. UK postage and packing is usually around £24 to £36 per order. If you are local to us (Edinburgh), you are more than welcome to visit our workshop with your cushions (by appt). Bring your covers too.

We had an enquiry from a customer in France. She wanted to replace the feather cushions on her leather chesterfield sofa as they were split and leaking feathers. I suggested our Feather & Down (85%/15%) cushions which suit traditional upholstery. She provided us with the measurements of her outer covers along with a photograph of her sofa. We made up the cushions for her based on these measurements and sent a video of them via WhatsApp for approval before shipping them to France. The entire process from her initial enquiry to delivery in took less than three weeks - UPS were excellent. Our customer is delighted and the sofa looks great too.

Feather-Wrapped Foam is our most popular filling which works very well for larger seat and back cushions on sofas in everyday use.
They are fairly firm and supportive and they hold their shape well. They are lighter than feather cushions, making them much easier to plump-up and maintain.

The luxurious feather and down padding is on both sides so the cushion can be flipped over and swapped about. The Reflex foam core can be easily removed from the zipped wrap and turned or replaced at a later date if necessary. The zipped wrap is just like a jacket with internal boxed pockets to help prevent the feather and down filling from moving around too much.

The replacement sofa cushion featured in this video is from a large 2/3 seater sofa with two cushions. Our customer was getting tired of constant plumping. We have been making pillows at our workshop in Morningside, Edinburgh for over 40 years. They are all filled by hand using the best quality Duck Feather or Duck Down filling which complies to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) or certified by Downpass. We use an excellent quality 100% cotton down-proof cambric which contains the feather/down extremely well.
Choose from soft, medium, firm or extra firm. If you find them too soft or too firm, please remember that you can send them back to us to be made softer or firmer, even after you have tried them out for a few weeks. There might be a small charge for additional filling but we will cover the cost of sending them back to you (UK).
Have a look at our black & white striped ticking pillows too. They are exactly the same as our standard pillows but have another layer of thick striped ticking over the top of them.

Example of a Feather-Wrapped Foam Window Seat Cushion with a 2”/5cm side border. This cushion is made up with a 2”/5cm foam core but the overall depth of the finished cushion is closer to 4”/10cm. The Feather & Down padding is on the top, bottom and along the front to give a lovely sumptuous and plump appearance. The zipped jacket has internal channeling to help keep the feather/down in place. These can be made up from your templates, measurements or covers. Very popular for kitchen bench seating.

If you don’t mind plumping-up your cushions daily, feather sofa cushions can work well. We make up our cushions using responsibly-sourced, Downpass certified feather & down fillings. All of our cushions are filled generously as standard but we can fill them to any density to suit your sofas and chairs. Each cushion has internal channels to help keep the feathers in place.

The cushion in this video/reel measures Approx. 25” x 25” x 4” (63cm x 63cm x 10cm). These are the seam to seam measurements of the cambric case. This cushion would fit into an outer cover measuring 24” x 24” x 4” (60cm x 60cm x 10cm). We make up our sofa cushions slightly larger than your outer covers to ensure a snug fit. The overall depth of the cushion is closer to 8”/20cm once plumped-up.

All of our cushions are measured, cut-out, sewn-up and hand-filled at our workshop in Edinburgh.

Before and after….
We recently worked with a customer who had an Ercol Bergere sofa and chair in need of attention (pictures with blue covers). We recommended our Feather-Wrapped Foam cushions which give a good level of support and more structure, especially for the longer cushions on the sofa. Her upholsterer, .upholstery has done an excellent job and transformed this sofa and chair with new covers. We were able to use the upholsterers cover measurements/drawings to make up the new cushions.
