Volunteers supported our social enterprise in a wide variety of roles, from driving our vans and helping on wood collections, to de-nailing timber and making upcycled products in our workshop. For some of our younger volunteers, this was a first step towards employment.

Move On Scotland continue to provide volunteering opportunities in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Whether that's mentoring a young person, distributing food at FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland, or hosting mock interviews for our trainees, volunteers are at the heart of our services.

As part of the charity Move On Scotland, we offered Building Brighter Futures, an eight-week employability course for 16–21 year olds.

Over the last seven years, we trained 1️⃣1️⃣4️⃣ young people who have gone on to careers in construction or joinery!

While Move On Wood Recycling has unfortunately closed, Move On continues to offer Building Brighter Futures, partnering with companies including Cruden Group, CCG Scotland Ltd, and City Access Scaffolding to offer young people practical work experience.

Through our sister social enterprise, FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland, Move On also offer Training for Work, a practical employability training course based in a working warehouse.

Our waste wood collection service was an eco-friendly alternative to skip hire for businesses, productions, festival and homes, directing waste wood to be resold in our shop, used to build furniture, or turned into woodchip.

The service rescued a whopping 1745 tonnes of wood from the waste stream. To put that into perspective, a typical car weighs about 1 to 2 tonnes! πŸš—

While Move On Wood Recycling has unfortunately closed, our parent charity Move On Scotland continues to make positive environmental and social impact. By redistributing quality surplus food to organisations feeding people at risk of food poverty, our sister social enterprise FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland fights food waste and hunger.

We know that Move On Wood Recycling was about more than saving money πŸ’š

The support of our customers, funders, volunteers, and staff team made a positive environmental and social impact in Edinburgh and beyond.

We would like to take a moment to celebrate the key achievements made over the last seven years.

Thank you to every single person who supported our social enterprise and is part of our legacy.
