Some images that never made the book.

The book provides an overview of the evolution of chair design, the rise and implications of Generative AI (GenAI) in design, and practical advice for integrating GenAI into the design process.

It delves into the origins and development of GenAI, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize design through rapid prototyping, tailored designs, and data-driven decisions. It discusses the ethical and societal challenges GenAI poses, including concerns about data privacy, intellectual property, and job displacement in the creative industry.

The author offers insights on selecting and using GenAI tools, stressing the importance of understanding their capabilities and limitations. They advocate for experimentation and client education to integrate GenAI effectively into the design process.

The book discusses how GenAI is reshaping design education, focusing on AI literacy, collaboration with AI, and balancing technical skills with creativity. It also emphasizes the importance of humanities in education to maintain creativity and empathy in design.

The text highlights GenAI's role in material innovation, particularly in developing sustainable, efficient, and tailored materials for design purposes. Legal challenges and ethical considerations surrounding GenAI in design are addressed, including copyright infringement, authenticity of AI-generated designs, and the need for transparency in AI usage.

Perfect for designers, artists, educators, and anyone interested in exploring the intersection of technology and creativity. It provides a comprehensive overview of GenAI, invites readers to reflect on its future trajectory, and stresses the ethical responsibilities of harnessing its power.

Working with Generative AI is exciting and alarming in equal measure. It quickly becomes clear that the AI can match, if not exceed, many of your design capabilities.

The strategy is simple: let the AI generate ideas while ensuring you steer its direction.

I once thought the creative industry would be slow to adopt AI, but it seems we're among the early adopters. Regardless of the debates around its societal benefits or drawbacks, AI it seems is here to stay.

These images/concepts were iterated using AI only. No CAD or Rendering.

I am hugely gratified to have been awarded a Design Guild Mark for the ‘Your Move’ side table

The Design Guild Mark is awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, in order to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. The Mark recognises the highest standards in the design of furnishings in volume production by the finest designers working in Britain, or British designers working abroad.

The ‘Your Move’ side table:

Each table is designed and made in Britain by some of our finest craftsmen. Their skill & attention to detail are evident in every piece. The ‘Your Move’ side table is hand turned over a 9-hour period. The design itself sits outside of fashion and trends. Its Inspiration and much of the credit goes to Nathaniel Cooke (London 1849) the designer of the ’Howard Staunton’ chess set a British design classic.
