ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

After more than 10 fantastic years as a stockist, I'm handing over the reins to the wonderful Emma at The Art Room within The Old School While I'll continue to use Frenchic in all my interior design projects and sing its praises to all, the time has come to hand over the day to day admin to the Fisher clan, who have been the backbone of this enterprise for so many years. What does this mean for our customers? Essentially, nothing at all! You'll continue to be able to purchase your Frenchic goodies as before, from The Art Room, but you'll probably have better access to stock as and when you need it! Thank you to all my lovely loyal customers and workshop attendees for supporting my business for over a decade. I hope you'll continue to support Emma and to shop local! With love and warmest wishes, Kirsten

We recently completed the transformation of a shower room in a chocolate-box cottage in Kirkcudbright, once an artist’s studio overlooking the Solway Firth.

Our client wanted a space that felt fresh and functional, while still reflecting the charm and character of the property.

We began by removing the old sink unit and shower wall, replacing them with a vintage chest of drawers, carefully converted into a bespoke vanity unit, and Perform Panel Nu-Lock shower panelling in the finish ‘Dandy Wood’ from Andersons Ltd.

Hiddleston Joiners fitted the shower panels, contrasting tongue and groove panelling, installed insulation, and framed the left-hand wall to conceal pipework for a new towel rail. Plus the flooring, finished with Karndean Flooring from Barbours of Dumfries.

The plumbing was completed by James Frew Ltd including the installation of the towel rail, new sink and taps, and updated shower fittings.

carried out the painting and decorating with Frenchic Paint in ‘Lady Grey’ and William Morris ‘Chrysanthemum’ wallpaper, which was carried across the ceiling to striking effect. A perfect matching roman blind was crafted by A1 Curtains of Thornhill.

Lighting, an extractor fan, and a shaver point were installed by C Coleman electrical, completing the transformation.

The finished space combines practicality with character and has been receiving compliments from guests and visitors alike.

A Moody, Maximalist Family Lounge

This deeply personal space was designed for a client with an eclectic eye and a clear vision. A lounge that felt rich, layered and lived-in. She wanted a cosy retreat for family life, but one that honoured her love of the whimsical, the gothic, and the beautifully unexpected.

At the heart of the scheme is a newly reinstated fireplace, fitted by the team at The Nithsdale Stove Centre. We incorporated the client’s salvaged Victorian tiles and paired them with a reclaimed sandstone hearth to anchor the space with character and warmth.

The wraparound library wall was designed to showcase an impressive book collection, artwork, and objects gathered over a lifetime. We started with humble Billy bookcases from IKEA and elevated them with detailed framing, quirky brass swallow handles and integrated lighting to give the joinery a real presence.

Frenchic Paint in the shade ‘Dawlish’ was used throughout the room, enveloping the space in a dramatic, rusty tone. The woodwork was contrasted in ‘Olivia’, creating cohesion with the fireplace tiles and adding subtle depth. A spectacular wallpapered ceiling and soft, diffused lighting bring intimacy to the room after dark.

We layered in a new velvet sofa and chaise for relaxed family lounging, with a Dunelm snuggler armchair, perfect for curling up with a book. A Moroccan-style rug grounds the seating area, while the original timber floors have been expertly restored by Border Floor. The look is completed with full-length drapes in a rich fabric by A1 Curtains, adding texture and softness to the space.

This is maximalism with meaning. A space that embraces memory, mood, and individuality.

We love giving treasured pieces a new lease of life, and this latest transformation is no exception.

Using Frenchic Paint Al Fresco in 'Smudge', paired with elegant brass knurled handles and legs, we’ve reimagined this classic sideboard and half-moon table with a fresh, contemporary edge.

Our client is thrilled with the result, and honestly, so are we.

If you have a much-loved piece you'd like to elevate, we’d love to help.

A Fresh Look for a Cherished Stag Bedroom Set

Looking forward to delivering this beautifully transformed Stag bedroom suite to a very happy client.

These pieces were inherited from their grandparents, and it was important to keep them in the family, honouring the sentiment while giving them a new lease of life.

We refinished the set in Frenchic Trim Paint shades "Dark Horse" and "Salt of the Earth", creating a timeless, high-contrast look with a refined edge. Paired with elegant new hardware, the result is a classic, luxurious feel that perfectly suits the space—and our client’s vision.

Proof that with the right touches, much-loved furniture can feel every bit as special as the memories attached to it.

A Fresh Start in a Cosy Cottage Bedroom 🌿

We’re so pleased to share this recently completed bedroom project—a gentle and sensitive transformation for a much-loved cottage home.

This space hadn’t been touched for many years and had understandably become tired and neglected following the passing of our client’s wife. With peeling wallpaper, a worn carpet, and dated furnishings, he felt it was time to create a calm, comforting room where he could truly relax.

We began by stripping back the walls and ceiling, repairing and relining to create a fresh canvas. The room was then colour-drenched in Frenchic Chalk Wall Paint in "Granola"—a soft, earthy neutral that instantly warms the space.

The existing wardrobes and drawers were given a new lease of life with Frenchic "Salt of the Earth", creating a gentle contrast while keeping the palette grounded and serene. Accents of sage green in the curtains, bedding and accessories added a subtle touch of colour and freshness.

A new herringbone wool-look carpet in a warm, natural tone brings softness underfoot, while antique brass lighting throughout enhances the cosy, layered look.

Huge thanks, as always, to our brilliant team and trusted suppliers who helped bring this space to life with care and attention to detail. It’s been a privilege to help create a room filled with warmth, comfort, and new beginnings.

A Serene and Sophisticated Bedroom Transformation

It's been a busy few months at Måla Interiors, but we're excited to finally share this stunning bedroom project, completed at the end of last year.

Our client wanted a darker, cocooning space to improve sleep quality, so we embraced a rich, tonal approach. We colour-drenched the entire room in Frenchic Paint Chalk Wall Paint in "Steaming Green," covering the ceiling, coving, built-in wardrobes, skirting, and window frames for a seamless, immersive feel. This deep, grounding shade is beautifully complemented by Lucie Annabel intricate leaf-patterned wallpaper, adding texture and elegance.

To enhance the restful atmosphere, we commissioned A1 Curtains in Thornhill to create bespoke green velvet curtains and striped blackout blinds, ensuring the room stays perfectly shaded for a restorative night’s sleep. Unexpected burnt orange accents in the cushions and ottoman inject warmth and contrast, bringing the space to life.

The furniture selection balances comfort and timeless style—a luxuriously padded headboard, a classic The Cotswold Company chest of drawers, and elegant bedside cabinets from Barbours of Dumfries complete the look. Underfoot, we opted for Unnatural Flooring’s New England range in a refined herringbone pattern, from Galloway carpets and flooring, adding depth and texture to the scheme. Thoughtfully chosen bedside and ceiling lights from John Lewis & Partners provide a soft, ambient glow.

As always, a huge thank you to our fantastic team of trades who helped bring this vision to life. We’re absolutely thrilled with the transformation—and, most importantly, so is our client!

Let us know what you think of this rich, cocooning space in the comments below! 🌿✨
