Downpatrick tennis club welcomes members of all ages and abilities and from all walks of life. Inclusivity is a strong theme throughout the club, and new members will be offered the support of a dedicated buddy for the first few weeks. This experienced member will guide them through club proce

dures and ensure they have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Coaching is available to members at all stages of their development from our professional accredited coaches. New players can compete in friendly matches and informal play on club nights and as they gain confidence they will have the opportunity to compete in the Belfast and District Leagues. Downpatrick Tennis Club is affiliated to Tennis Ireland the governing body of tennis in Ireland.

The 2nd American Tournament of the year took place this morning in dry but windy conditions. Thanks to Brian for organising the draws and he is pictured with his partner Ann as joint runners up with Fergal and Rosemary. Congratulations to the overall winners Anna and Dympna. Thanks to Wackoz for the delicious scones. The weather for the incoming week looks very promising so club play will run as usual on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The club resumed business last weekend with some of the members cleaning and preparing the courts after the long cold, wet and windy winter! Thanks to Alan, Allan & Matt for that.
Our 1st american tournament took place on Sunday 13th April and we had a great turn out of members. Captain Matt organised the draw and ran it with great ease! Well done Matt! Thanks to all the members who did the catering for the event. Congratulations to the winners Alan & Catherine. Runners up were Clare & Tracey (Clare not in the pic!) The Club Annual Dinner & Presentation evening took place on Saturday 16th November Barn Saul. Captain Alan presented the winners of the 2024 club competitions following the lovely meal at the venue. The winners are as follows:-
Ladies Doubles Dympna & Twyla, Mens Doubles Matt & Allan
Handicap Ladies Doubles Alex & Catherine, Handicap Mens Doubles Mark & Alan, Ladies Handicap Singles, Caitlyn & Mens Alan. The mixed open doubles finals is still to be played. A special presentation was made to Jayne & Clare winners of the 2022 doubles. They were presented with a beautiful plate specially selected by the Captain Alan!! I am sure it will be pride of place at Jayne and Clare's trophy cabinets!
All the presentations were made by Captain Alan and the vice captain Matt. Thank you for Alan for a fabulous year where he excelled in his contribution to great fun and plenty of laughs at all the american tournaments and indeed captains day. Good luck to Matt on his incoming Captaincy and look forward to next seasons tennis!

Sunday 1st September saw the last American Tournament for the club this year. As always there was a great turnout of members and the weather was kind. Congratulations to the winners Brian and Angela with runners up Matt and Ann. Our Captain Alan has been a great host this year with his commitment and sense of humour even on the wet and windy days! Thanks to vice captain Matt for always being a great support to Alan this year and we have no doubt will be a brilliant captain in 2025!
Thanks to our members for their commitment to the club this year and we hope to see you all again soon. Details of the annual prizegiving evening and AGM will follow soon.

The club held Captains Day today Sunday 18th June 2024 and apart from a little bit of a breeze the weather was fabulous. Congratulations to the winners of the tournament Liz and Catherine, runners up Mark & Joanna and in bronze place was Alan & Rachel. Congratulations to Captain Alan Patrick Milligan who organised the event brilliantly and contributed some beautiful prizes. It was a great turn out from the club members who as always brought along a fantastic spread from home made scones to strawberries & cream! The next American Tournament will be Sunday 1st September 2024. Club play will continue Mondays and Wednesdays until the end of August. Club competition matches will hopefully get completed before the end of the month!
