Four snake-eye brace auger bits, also called bullnose augers, used in a hand brace. Three were made by Cornelius Whitehouse of Cannock and the largest of the four was made by Samuel Brookes & Co. (Sedgley Tools).

A 14” wooden razee jack plane made by Onions & Co. of Birmingham. A razee-style plane (like a razee ship) has a section cut away at the back which makes the plane lighter and lowers the handle. It gives the user better control. The button at the front is for wedge removal and is called a ‘Striking Nub’. The user holds the wedge tightly and raises the front of the plane then strikes the nub with a mallet. The heel (back) of the plane can also be struck for wedge removal.

A wooden router plane, also called a Granny’s Tooth or Old Woman’s Tooth. This one always reminds me of a knife sticking in a loaf of bread but it reminds some people of other things. These come in all shapes and sizes and were eventually all made of metal. The modern power router has turned these tools mainly into ornaments but they are still used by some to do specialist jobs.

The wooden dado plane has two blades and is used for cutting grooves across the grain. The first, more upright, nicker blade scores the wood in advance of the cutting blade.

My Record compass plane. I rarely use this now, it has become an ornament. If I worked in the north, south, east or west, I always knew where I was with this tool.
