Rotting weatherboarding is a common issue we come across—especially where boards meet lead work. In this case, the root cause was poor installation, with unsealed end grain allowing moisture to soak in over time.
The bottom cuts of timber are the most vulnerable, so it’s essential to properly seal the end grain, followed by priming and undercoating. This prevents water ingress and significantly extends the lifespan of the boards.
After discussing the options with the customer, we carried out a full replacement using new treated timber weatherboarding, making sure every step was done correctly for long-term durability. We also replaced the damaged lead work before installing the new boards to ensure everything was properly protected from the start.
