Karl Young Carpentry & Design I have over twenty years experience as a carpenter and designer and set up this page show the kind of work I do. I enjoy creative and challenging projects.

This page has been set up to show examples of my carpentry and design work. I have done a lot of closets and kitchens and hung many doors in my time, but every now and then I
will get an interesting project like a Porch, a tree house, or a loft conversion. I have set up this page in conjunction with my website www.treehousesandporches.co.uk to advertise the range of my skills and the type of commissions I am interested in working on.

A lot of people have been by wondering what I have been building in front of the Berwyn Arms, Glyndyfrdwy, and why? Over the last two years I have done a lot of work in The Berwyn Arms to help Sarah and staff transform the Inn. However none of the work is noticeable from the road, and it looks like nothing has changed. Simply I have built a deck, where as you drive by, you can see people enjoying a good pint. But also, we wanted to create an entrance, something that is bold but also fitting, to announce that the Berwyn Arms has changed and upped its game. I gave it a test run this evening with a couple of pints and it works👍

A work in progress but I am getting there. This is a garden room based loosely on a Japanese tea house built out of green oak. I have finished the red cedar shingle roof and red cedar cladding with a hidden door for the shed at the back. Two sets of folding sliding doors will meet at a floating corner(a corner without a post) to form the room, as can be seen in the design model.

I have wanted to build a deck at the The Berwyn Arms for long time and finally got my opportunity, so this was a very satisfying job. There is nothing like a deck to take advantage of a beautiful view. I have managed to get it done just in time for the warm weather and Sunday lunch on the new deck tomorrow....

The green oak framing is done and my model from a few months ago is slowly being realised.

Making progress on my current job, it is a Ty House😉.
I started with a model and then once I had built the deck I could make the working drawings. I'm building this with the help of a friend, we have almost finished jointing the oak and hopefully next week we will construct the frame.

A year ago I built the exterior of this ‘shed’ since then the interior has been slowly acquiring a life and character of its own, in other words separate form me. The artist who I built it for is very creative and I enjoy seeing it evolve. Last week I went back and insulated and boarded the roof and ceilings, and I now feel that my part in this project has been completed...but it is still a work in progress.

I recently made this bespoke TV bookcase in Llangollen. The two central cabinets have pull out shelves to better access the electronic equipment. It is 5 meters wide and made 40mm Tulip wood.
